English Short Story Activity

Set up :
Scene opens with a description of the bustling police station and we shift our
focus onto this man sitting down in front of the inspector’s desk, waiting for his
arrival.

Describe him in detail, ending the description with his scar. Then describe a
tension filled paragraph of a collection of memories that happened on that
fateful night where he got that scar. Don't go into too much detail for the
flashback; it should be chaotic and choppy.

There’s not much of a necessity to describe how he got the scar in detail, maybe
just insert a short memory of blood dripping from his arm.

Then the inspector pops in and enquires.

Let’s make this inspector the protagonist. Give him a name and a positive
description that portrays him as overconfident and cocky as well.

The inspector then drags him out of his memories. The guy complains to him
about “Abnormal activity” up at the mansion at plot no ____ (fill it in, your wish).

The inspector says they’ll take care of it and smth smth.

Scene pans onto a view of the mansion from the inspectors pov. This is important
so give us a nice description of how eerie the mansion looks. Maybe include a
scene with an officer warning the inspector that this could be dangerous but the
inspector waves him off.

He and his troop of officers then enter the mansion, armed.

Conflicts :
The officers file into the mansion and explore briefly, disgusted by the horrible
smell from the mansion. Hearing a door creak, they try to walk in. What a shock
they get when they see a half decayed body hanged from the ceiling. While
everyone is baffled, a man at the back screams suddenly as a hooded figure
suddenly drags him by the legs away.
You could start like this and insert loads of more chaotic and horrifying scenes,
eliminating each officer one by one. Make sure each scene isn’t too detailed, it’ll
be better if each scene is brief as this will give a chaotic effect.

Climax :
The inspector is left as the last man standing, he keeps running through the
mansion, finding himself in a room and the door behind him slams shut. Turning
back around he looks for a way to escape and sees the ceiling. Etched in blood :

“ time to say goodnight “

That was the last they heard of those guys.

Resolution :
The Man with the scar passes by the house, which is now barred and off limits.
One more description of him and the house, ending with the last dialogue that
reveals his sinister intentions - he wanted the inspector dead.
