Yes, Ma’am!
of attendance. As I call your name, you must
say PRESENT, loud and clear, okay?

(Calling names for the following minutes)

(Each student raises their hands as their
name was called)

4. Review of the previous lesson

Before we start with our new lesson, do you

remember what is our last lesson all about?

(Calls a student)
Ma’am! It was all about evaluating literature
as a vehicle of expressing and resolving
conflicts between and among individual or
groups.
Very good, since I can see that you really learn
something from our previous lesson, we will
now proceed to the next topic, which is about
one of the types of an essay, but I will you will
know it later after the activity that I will give.

B. Motivation

We will have a short activity before we

proceed to our next topic. It is 5 mins or less
activity only.

So, for our activity, I have here five (5) (Student’s listening)
jumbled words that you need to solve. I will
divide you into two groups; on this left aisle
we have group 1, and on the right side we
have group 2. Each group will have two five
representatives to be here in front. The first (Student’s response)
group that will finish first, will be the winner.
Okay? Do you understand class?

(The game starts)

(After 5 mins.)

Now, we already have a winner (announcing

(Each group are participating well)
the winner). Congratulations! So, let’s
proceed to our lesson for today. After the
activity, do you already know what will be
our topic for today? Anyone?
(Student’s response)
C. Lesson Proper

Abstraction

So, class, who among you here has an idea

what is an essay, and what are the types of
essay? Because our topic for today is one of
its types; I assume that there’s someone here
who was at least able to read the reading
material that I sent last night.

Anyone? No one? Okay! For you to know it

thoroughly, I have here an editorial excerpt
from the Philippine Daily Inquirer featured on
May 21, 2002.

(Calls a student to read the said article)

(Student’s response)
Thank you, Mendoza! You may sit down.

Now, what is our topic for today?

(Student’s response)
How does the title reveal the topic of the
essay?

(Student’s response)

What pattern or technique is employed in this

writing?

(Student’s response)
Generally, what is the challenge posed by the
editorial?
Okay! So, essay is one of the literary genre in
literature. It has four types which are the;
argumentative, expository, narrative, and
descriptive essay. But for today, we will only
focus on one of its types---Argumentative
essay.
(Student’s are listening)
(Calls a student to read what is shown in the
PPT screen)

(Argumentative essay conveys opinions that

are proposed as true and justifiable. It is for
a reason that an editorial is the most
outstanding example of argumentative
writing, although persuasion is also really
identified in campaign speeches or event
print advertisements) (Student’s response)

(Continues to call students to read)

(Student’s response)
(After the discussion)

And we’re all done with today’s discussion, it

seems that all of you really understand what I
have discussed with you. But I want to make
sure you really grasp something from the
topic. Can anyone enumerate the three broad
stages a while ago? (Student’s response)
(Calls a student)

(Students are response)

(Complimenting/Giving praise to the

students)

Application

We are almost done with our class, I have

here a 20-item test, that you need to answer
within 15 minutes. It’s ample time for you to
finish it; all of the answers were discussed
(Student’s answers)
earlier, so I expect you still remembered
them. Good luck and you may start now.

Generalization

Now, class, I hope that you grasp something

from our discussion and really learn
something from it. Basically, the focus of this
part of the learning material then is to expose
you to understand more and know how to (Students are listening and responding at the
make an argumentative essay with the same time)
techniques that were discussed to you.
Understood?”

IV. ASSESSMENT

I. Identify the following; copy and

answer. (1/4 sheet of paper)
