ESSAY TOPICS - 2023

Read the following instructions carefully: -

Write an essay on any one of the three topics provided.

Your essay shall be evaluated based on the evidence it provides of your ability to :

1) State and develop your original thought/perspective on the topic.


2) Clearly and logically organise your ideas in an essay.
3) Reflect critically on the topic i.e. your ability to support your answer with proper
reasoning.
4) Effectively communicate your ideas in plain English.

There are no prescribed word limits or word ranges. However, you are expected to write
around 250-300 words.

Indicative time : You should ideally spend about thirty-five (35) minutes on the essay and
fifty-five (55) minutes on the rest of the sections.

Please note that if the essay is found to be plagiarised, it shall lead to disqualification of the
candidate.

Essay Topics

1. Explain in detail any one significant current event from the past 12 months that was
in the national news.
2. Discuss any recent movie from 2024 that you have watched. What changes would
you make in the movie to make it more interesting for the general public?
3. India celebrated its 75th Republic Day in 2024. Write an essay on any one freedom
fighter that has inspired you.
4. Discuss the relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideas in the 21st century.
5. Discuss – Role of the Internet and smartphones in our daily life.
6. Discuss in detail any one of your hobbies.
7. What should be more important for a person - success, hard work or luck?
8. What is your most significant achievement and why?
9. What is your opinion on the impact of technology on education in India?
10. Is traditional knowledge and culture still relevant in the 21st century? Explain with
examples.
11. What is ‘Justice’? How can we work to make our society a just society?
12. Why should a country have a constitution?
13. Discuss women’s rights and their relevance.
14. What do you understand by ‘equality’? How can we work towards achieving an
egalitarian (equal) society?
15. Should reservations in educational institutions be eliminated? Give reasons in support
of your answer.
16. Should death penalty be abolished? Give reasons in support of your answer.
17. Taxes should be abolished. Write in favour of or against this statement. Give
reasons for your answer.
18. If you were in charge of law-making, what one law would you change or add and
why?
19. How can our political leaders tackle climate change?
20. What are some of the challenges and opportunities for start-ups in India?
