What are Architectural Drawings & Plans?

 An architectural drawing is a manual for a building.


The architectural drawing is an illustration of what
the final product will look like plus an instructional
tool on how to achieve it.
 Architectural drawings can be devoted to depicting
an overview of the building or they can focus on a
particular element (a detail).

o Architects uses several types of drawings to
show how a Building is designed. The
following are drawings that architects
typically creates in the process of designing a
Building:

VICINITY MAP/LOCATION
PLAN

o Contains the LOCATION OF THE


PROJECT SITE it is typically within a
2.00 KM radius, at any convenient
scale showing prominent landmarks
or major thoroughfares for ease
reference.

SITE DEVELOPMENT PLAN
o These are plans showing TECHNICAL
DESCRIPTION, BOUNDARIES, ORIENTATION
& POSITION of proposed building/structure
in relation to the lot, existing or proposed
access road and driveways and existing public
utilities or services.

o Existing buildings within adjoining the lot shall


be hatched and distances between the
proposed and existing buildings shall be
indicated.

PERSPECTIVE
o Drawn at convenient scale and taken from
vantage point (bird’s eye view or eye level)
showing the façade or exterior view of the
building.

FLOOR PLAN

o A Floor Plan is an Architectural drawing of a


building with the roof removed as seen from
above.
o The cutting plane/cutting plane line is the
imaginary line or slice on a floor plan drawing
showing where a building is cut
o Floor plans are drawn to scale not less than
1:100 showing: Gridlines, Complete
identification of rooms or functional spaces

ELEVATION

o Elevation drawings are scaled drawing of one


side of a building.
o Elevation drawings shows grid lines; natural
ground to finish grade elevations; floor to
floor heights; door and window marks, type
of material and exterior finishes; adjoining
existing structures, if any shown in single
hatched lines.

SECTION

o A building section is a scaled drawing of a


building showing what it would look like if the
entire building showing what it would look
like if the entire building was sliced vertically,
and then a part removed, so that interior can
be seen.
