LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE AND HEALTH GRADE VI 5E’s Approach

I.Objectives

a.Identify different methods of separating mixtures:S6MTId-f-2

b.differentiate the difference of separating mixtures: andS6MTId-f-2

c.demonstrate different techniques in separating mixtures.S6MTId-f-2

II.Subject Matter a.Topic: Techniques in Separating Mixtures

b.Reference: Science VI, Curriculum Guide c.Materials: laptop, handouts, speaker, magnet, sieve, tong,
cloth

III.Learning Procedure

a.Engage: Present different kind of mixtures to the pupils. Let them identify the substances that are
present in the mixtures. Call a pupil who wants to identify the substances that are present in the
mixture. Then, ask them if it’s possible to separate those mixtures.

b.Explore Divide the class into 4 groups. Give each groups two mixtures. Let them separate the mixtures
using the different materials like funnel, sieve, magnet, cloth, tong. For 5 minutes, let them figure out
what material they will use to separate such mixture.

Group 1.Separating component of mixtures using Filtration Method

Group 2.Separating component of mixtures using Magnetism Method

Group 3.Separating component of mixtures using Decantation Method

Group 4. Separating component of mixtures using Sieving Method Ask the pupils how and what material
they use to separate the mixture.

c.Explain For them to have a better understanding provide a laboratory experiment. Give them handout
which will serve as guide in doing the task.

d.Elaborate Ask pupils the following questions: What are the different separating mixtures? What is
___________ method and give example? What is the difference between filtering and sieving?

How about the difference of decanting and handpicking method?

Do you think the techniques/methods in separating mixture is important in our daily life?

e.Evaluate 1.In your home, how do you used filtration, sieving, decanting, magnetism and handpicking
separation technique? Give example to each technique.
