Computer System Servicing
Documentation Report
Disassembling and Assembling of Computer System Unit
I. Introduction: The system unit is a critical component of a computer system, housing the motherboard, CPU, RAM,
and other essential hardware components. This documentation report provides a step-by-step guide for the disassembly
and assembly of a typical system unit.

II. Tools Required:

 Phillips screwdriver
 Brush
 Anti-static wrist strap
 Gloves
 Small container

III. Disassembly Process:

Step 1: Preparation
 Place the system unit on a clean, flat surface with
ample space to work.

Step 2: Removing Side Panels

 Locate the screws holding the side panels in
place.
 Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws.
 Slide the side panels backward to disengage them
from the chassis.

Step 3: Disconnecting Internal Cables

 Identify all cables connected to the motherboard,
such as power supply cables, SATA cables, and
front panel connectors.
 Gently disconnect these cables from their
respective ports on the motherboard.
 Take note of their positions for reassembly.
Step 4: Removing Hard Disk Drive
 Unscrew the hard disk drive from disk bay

Step 5: Removing Memory Modules

 Press down on the clips at either end of the

memory module to release it from the slot.
Carefully remove the memory module from the
slot.
Step 6: Removing Motherboard
 Locate the screws holding the motherboard to the
chassis.
 Unscrew these screws using a Phillips
screwdriver.
 Carefully lift the motherboard out of the case,
ensuring no cables are still connected.
Step 7: Removing the Power Supply
 Locate the screw holding the power supply at the
back of the case
 Unscrew these screws using Philips screwdriver.
 Carefully lift the power supply out of the chase.
Cleaning
 Clean all parts of the system unit

IV. Assembly Process

Step 1: Installing Motherboard
 Align the motherboard with the standoffs in the
chassis.
 Secure the motherboard to the chassis using the
screws removed during disassembly.
Step 2: Installing Memory Modules
 Align the notches on the memory module with
the slot on the motherboard.
 Press down firmly on both ends of the memory
module until the clips snap into place.
Step 3: Installing Hard Disk Drive
 Insert the hard disk drive to its respective slot.
 Secure the drive in place with screws.
Step 4: Connecting Internal Cables
 Reconnect all cables to their corresponding ports
on the motherboard.
 Double-check connections to ensure they are
secure.
Step 6: Reattaching Side Panels
 Slide the side panels back onto the chassis until
they are fully engaged.
 Secure the side panels with the screws removed
earlier.
Step 7: Final Checks
 Ensure all components are securely installed and
connected.
 Reconnect all cables to the system unit.
 Power on the computer and verify that it boots
up correctly

Conclusion: Proper disassembly and assembly of a system unit are essential for maintenance, upgrades, and
troubleshooting. By following the steps outlined in this documentation report, users can safely and effectively perform
these tasks, ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of their computer systems
