CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

This chapter describe the method of research design, the respondents of the study, the
instrument used, data gathering procedures, and statistical treatment of data.

Research Method and Technique used

The researcher will employ the quantitative method and use descriptive design to determine
the level of Reading Skills of grade 6 in Barangay Nalvo Sur, Luna La Union based on the given U.S.
Department of Education (.gov). This method will use to gather data about varying subjects and is
undertaken when the investigator is after probing or exploring areas where little is known about the
research problem. Also, the benchmarking method will employ to collect, analyze, and summarize the
level of Reading Skills of grade 6 as a result of their best practices based on the U.S. Department of
Education. Thus, the descriptive quantitative research design which is a quantitative research method
attempts to collect quantifiable information for statistical analysis of the population sample
(QuestionPro, n.d.).

This data aims to find out to what extent different conditions can be obtained in these subjects. It allows
the gathering and collection of information and statistical analysis of numerical data to assess the level
of proficiency in digital competence of elementary students within the U.S. Department of Education as
the external benchmarking.

Population and Sample

This study will be conducted on Grade 6 students of Nalvo Sur Public School in Luna, La Union, during
the Academic Year 2023-2024.

The respondents of the study are the 30 public students from Nalvo Sur who are currently enrolled in
Grade 6 and attending classes regularly.

Sampling Design and Procedures


Purposive convenient sampling will be used to select the respondents to validate the outcome of
this study.The respondents were selected regardless of the specializations of the students from
Barangay Nalvo Sur.

A convenience sample is one that is drawn from a source that is conveniently accessible to the
researcher (Andrade, 2020). This sampling is a technique wherein the researcher relies on his or her own
judgment when choosing members of the population to participate in the study.

Instrument Used

The researcher will use the survey questionnaire design wich is based on the U.S. Department of
Education (.gov).

For the U.S. Department of Education (.gov). Also use to gather data and information to identify the
level of Reading Skills of grade 6 in Barangay Nalvo Sur Luna La Union with the use of 4 points scale as
shown in the table below:

Data Gathering Procedures

Once the permit to conduct the study is granted by the School Principal of LNHS, a letter of request will
be forwarded to the baranggay captain of Nalvo Sur for the administration of the survey questionnaire.

The questionnaire will be distributed and administered to the respondents from the department of
school in Nalvo Sur. Subsequently, the retrieval of the instrument will do a day after the respondents'
answered the questionnaires.

Meanwhile, the accomplished survey questionnaire will be retrieved to ensure the accuracy of the
responses and a high percentage of retrieval. The results of the study will be analyzed and treated
statisticaly.
