1990s-Present- a number of influential
texts emerged insisting that Human
90-160 CE- Ptolemy created the famous
manuscript called "Geographia" where he
shares new techniques in the field of
Cartography.
64 BCE-20 CE- The first detailed map of
Europe was drowned by Strabo.
384-322 BCE- Erastosthenes introduced or
coined the word "Geography" into the
Greek language. He is also the first person
to calculate the circumference of the Earth.
And the first person to create system of the
longitude and latitude using the first world
map that he drew.
384-322 BCE- Aristotle speculated about
the ideal locations for cities and the conflict
between rich and poor groups.
400 BCE- The first map was created and
drawn on a clay tablet in Mesopotamia, the
world's first civilization (now Southern Iraq).
1903- The establishment of the first North
American department of Geography at the
University of Chicago.
1882-1891- Friedrich Ratzel a German
geographer published his work with two-
volumes entitled "Anthropogeographie"
which emphasizes thr role of physical
environment in molding human culture
across every regions.
1769-1859- Alexander von Humboldt
published his major work with five volumes
entitled "Kosmos." On the other hand Carl
Ritter also published his definiti8 work with
nineteen volumes entitled "Die Erdkunde."
Humboldt and Ritter's call for a discipline
that integrated ideas from the natural
sciences, social sciences, and humanities
was accepted, and Geography was
considered necessary in universities'
curriculum.
1418- Prince Henry of Portugal and also a
Portuguese explorer, established the
world's first geographical research center.
Geography was a quintessential Western
academic subject and existed only because
the knowledge it produced once served
powerful European and Western imperial
interests.
1950's-1960's- With the help of group of
Geographers from University of
Washington in Seattle, Geography became
Spatial Science.
1953- A paper made by E W. Schaefer
marks the beginning of Spatial Analysis
which is an approach focuses on explaining
the location of geographic facts.
1918- Vidal de la Blanche a French
Geographer, published his work entitled
"Principles of Human Geography" where he
tackled idea about environmental
possiblism and it was popularized.
1905- A.J. Herbertson a British geographer
created and proposed an outlinr of the
world's natural region.
