Happy Thanksgiving The library will be closing early at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, November 23 and closed Thursday, November 24 for Thanksgiving Day. We will reopen Saturday, November 26 at 9:00 AM. We also want to say Thank You to all the veterans in honor of Veterans Day. We appreciate all your sacrifice on behalf of our country. Thank You This month we want to say a special Thank You to the Farmington Womens Club and the Historical Society. The Womens Club has graciously allowed us to use their lovely space for the Film Society and the Gardeners Roundtable as well as some of our special events. We want to thank the Historical Society for allowing us to host our Gardeners Roundtable speaker Marc Moran in the fun items for sale with a percentage going to our Friends of the Library. Adults may donate comics for the event . Special Antique Portrait Reception at Library Friday, November 18 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM The Farmington community is cordially invited to a reception celebrating the recent acquisition of a pair of rare and historic antique reverse glass paintings of George and Martha Washington. These were a recent donation by the Thayer Family to the Goodwin Library.

Light refreshments will be served. Please join us and learn more about this extinct art form and the local artist who created these beautiful heirlooms.
Gardeners Roundtable Wednesday, November 2 at 6:00 PM Wednesday, December 7 at 6:00 PM

New Book and DVD Drop Box The DVD drop is temporarily unavailable to due to a leak. Please place ALL returns, INCLUDING audio books and videos in the main drop. Bookmarks We are pleased to offer some beautiful, one of a kind, beaded bookmarks, handmade by one of the Friends of the Library as a fundraiser for our Friends Group. They are only $2.00 each, and would be great stocking stuffers or gifts for your favorite book lovers. Be sure to stop by the front desk and have a look! Kids Comic Book Swap with Jetpack Comics Saturday, December 10 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM Save the date for this incredible event for kids up to age 18. Bring your comics to trade with other kids and for Jetpack comics. Jetpack will be also giving away free goodies to kids. Bring canned goods to swap for comics and graphic novels. This month we will be meeting in the Historical Societys Museum, which is located downstairs in the library. Our November speaker is Marc Moran of Hopewell Farms, which is an environmentally friendly, completely energy self-sufficient farm situated on 50 acres in South Newbury, NH. They are also New Hampshires first producer of farmraised Tilapia. Dont miss this interesting insight into a unique place. In December, our speaker will be Gardeners Roundtable member Pete Javellas talking about extreme recycling in your garden. If you are a gardener or would like to be, come to the meeting and meet the other members.
Adult Poets and Writers Group Monday, November 7 at 6:00 PM Monday, December 5 at 6:00 PM Writers, we are sending a call-out for any winter or holiday poems or very short essays to put together a 2nd annual Holiday Book for the group. Please e-mail any work youd like to submit to goodwinprograms@ gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is Saturday, November 12. If you are a writer looking to share your work, we are an enthusiastic and supportive group of poets, novelists, and singer/songwriters. All writers and interested listeners are welcome to join us and enjoy the work of the many talented people in our community.

Farmington Film Society at the Goodwin Library Monday, November 14 at 6:00 PM Wednesday, December 28 at 6:00 PM

This month, we are showing our film on a Monday so the Childrens Room can use the Womens Club space for the Polar Express event, so please take note. We are excited to be showing Everything Must Go starring Will
Ferrell in a change of pace role as a career salesman who loses his wife and his job in the worst day of his life. Faced with his life imploding, Nick puts it all on the line or, rather, on the lawn as he moves himself and all his possessions to his front yard. Dont miss this free screening of this critically acclaimed movie. Next month we will be showing the movie Attack the Block for those that need something different after all the Holiday specials. The Film Society is a program for Adults over 18 only. Adult Book Club Monday, November 21 at 6:00 PM Monday, December 19 at 6:00 PM This month we will be discussing Ray Bradburys classic Something Wicked This Way Comes, a forerunner of contemporary supernatural literature. There are still copies available for checkout if you want to stop by the library, as this should be a great discussion. Next months pick is Sandra Dallass Tallgrass. Come join us! Friends of the Goodwin Library Meeting Wednesday, November 9 at 6:00 PM Wednesday, December 14 at 6:00 PM The Friends group is working hard to raise money in order to continue to support Library Programs. You can join the Friends simply by paying a small membership fee (all fees are used to support the Library). If you are interested in becoming a member of the Friends, please join us for the next meeting. Applications to become a member of the Friends are available at the library and available on the Friends blog at www.goodwinlibrary.org. Kids Cartoon Club Monday, November 28 at 6:00 PM No Cartoon Club in December This month we will be working on cartoon holiday cards. Bring your original and funny ideas to the class to draw up as a card that you can send to your friends and family.

Childrens Room News Polar Express Family Event Wednesday, November 30 at 6:00 PM

Kick off the Holiday Season with this Annual Family Favorite! Free tickets available at both circulation desks, so be sure to pick yours up. Come dressed in your pjs and listen to the classic childrens book The Polar Express. Enjoy hot chocolate, cookies, and our annual Holiday sing-a-long. Teen News Do you like books, movies, games, crafts, and hanging with your friends? Teen Advisory Board might be for you! Open to anyone in grades 6-12 (homeschoolers, too). This group gives teens the opportunity to have input about materials and programming for YOU at the Goodwin Library. Reminder: Now that school is back in session, remember that we are here for your homework and school project resources and guidance. Computers are available for research and word processing needs. Call us to reserve a timeslot @ 755-2944 x3. If we dont have what you need here, ask us about borrowing resources from another library. Community Cold Weather Knitters Needed We are collecting knitted hats, mittens, scarves, and gloves to distribute to local families. We would also love to have donations of handmade knitted shawls for retirement home and nursing home residents. You can drop off your knitted items to either circulation desk. Food Donations Thanks to our patrons we collected 139 food items in October. With the holidays coming up many of our neighbors and their families will be doing without necessities. If you would like to help out, you may bring canned goods, non-perishable food items, personal care items, pet food (please remember pets need to eat, too), and necessities to the library for the Farmington Food Pantry.
