How CPEC phase II will galvanize industrialization and

employment in Pakistan?
The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Phase II is expected to have a
significant impact on industrialization and employment in Pakistan. Here are a few
ways that it could do so:

1. Infrastructure Development: The construction of new infrastructure,

such as roads, ports, and power plants, as part of CPEC Phase II is expected
to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in Pakistan. This is particularly
important in the underdeveloped areas of Pakistan, where infrastructure is
limited, and economic development is lagging.
• The East Bay Expressway (N-10)
• New Gwadar International Airport
• 150 BEDS HOSPITAL GWADAR
• Havelian-Thakot (M-15)
• Multan-Sukkur (M-5)
• Hakla-D.I.Khan (M-14)
• Khuzdar-Basima (N-30)

2. Industrial Parks: CPEC Phase II is focused on developing industrial parks

and special economic zones, which will provide the necessary facilities and
infrastructure to attract new investment and create jobs. These industrial
parks will provide opportunities for new industries, such as textile,
pharmaceuticals, food processing, and manufacturing.
• Allama Iqbal Industrial City (AIIC)
• Rashakai in KP
• Dhabeji, Sindh
• Bostan SEZ in Balochistan

3. Energy production: The construction of new power plants and energy

infrastructure as part of CPEC Phase II is expected to increase energy
production, which will help to improve power supply and reduce power
shortages. This will be a key factor in attracting new investment and creating
jobs, particularly in the manufacturing and industrial sectors.
• 99 MW Jhimpir Wind Power Project
• 720 MW Karot HPP
• 1124 MW Kohala HPP
• 640 MW MAHL HPP
• 884 MW SUKI KINARI HYDRO HPP
• CHINA HUB COAL POWER PLANT
• ENGRO POWERGEN THAR LIMITED
• HVDC TRANSMISSION LINE (660 KV)

4. Agriculture Development: CPEC Phase II is also expected to promote

agriculture development by introducing modern technology and
mechanization, which will help to improve crop yields and reduce food
shortages. This will create jobs and income opportunities in the agricultural
sector, particularly in rural areas.
• The Agriculture Joint Working Group (JWG) under CPEC was set up last year
in March 2020. One of the first projects in this domain has been started for
high quality cotton seed production and field experiments are ongoing.

5. Human Capital Development: CPEC Phase II will also focus on human

capital development, which will provide training and education
opportunities for the local population. This will help to improve the skills and
qualifications of the labor force, which will be important for attracting new
investment and creating jobs.
• A JWG for Science and Technology had been set up last year. It is extremely
encouraging that both sides have agreed to start a new JWG for Information
Technology
• The China-aided Vocational and Technical Training Center in Gwadar.
Conclusion:
In summary, CPEC Phase II is expected to have a significant impact on
industrialization and employment in Pakistan. Through infrastructure
development, energy production, industrial parks, agriculture development, and
human capital development, it will help to create jobs, stimulate economic growth,
and improve living standards in the country.
