The father has decided to punish his son for playing in the rain.
The father had to deal with his son hating him after the punishment he was given for playing
in the rain even though he just wants his son safe.
One poetic device is irony The little boy thinks his father is unfeeling but here it is clear that
he is struggles between wanting to comfort his son and ensuring that he disciplines him. We
see that in stanza three.

The woman speaks to the man who employed her son

The mother has decided to speak to the man who employed her son.
After speaking to the man who employed her son she went downtown and bought three and
one-third yards of black cloth and a deep crowned and veiled hat for the day he draws his
bloody salary as she accepted the situation and says psalms for him even. She has been
convinced that since he has been introduced to gun violence he is bound to get killed.
The poetic device in the poem that portrays the challenged of parenting is Contrast: There is a
difference between what the mother expects from the son and what he actually becomes.

In Dulce et decorum Est the poet is in describing how he views the way and how it is not as
sweet as the older generations portray it.

the situation was so traumatic.

The persona is suffering because they live in a society where everyone cares more about
social and financial status rather than being sincere and genuine.
