(Casual) Oblivion 100% Main Guide (START HERE)
(Casual) Oblivion 100% Main Guide (START HERE)
This guide is intended for casual players to go about achieving the 100% objectives at their own pace. If
you prefer to follow an explicit and linear set of instructions, refer to the speedrunner version of this
guide and the other materials. This guide is organized by objective, focusing mainly on explaining the
possible ways the 100% objectives could become impossible to achieve, and how to avoid those
softlocks. Occasionally extra advice is given for ways to speed up the process of achieving certain
objectives, but no glitches/exploits are absolutely required in any case.
This guide also functions as a way to visually see all of the information that the speedrun route logic is
developed around for those who are curious about that.
Each section includes general tips, along with specific softlocks that will make certain objectives
impossible.
Various items are colored and bolded when mentioned in all the guide documents. They mean the
following:
Before jumping into the challenge, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the various
materials that have been provided to help achieve 100% completion:
Oblivion Map:
● This map shows you every discoverable location in the game, and is used to help complete the
“Places Found”, “Oblivion Gates Shut”, and “8 Permanent Greater Powers” objectives.
● Wayshrines, Heaven Stones, Oblivion Gates, and exceptional locations are labeled accordingly to
make the map exploration process more straightforward.
● The map rules are listed in simple terms on the image itself, and are explained in more detail in
the “Places Found” section of this guide.
Nirnroot Map:
● This map shows all of the outdoor Nirnroot in the game, and shows a computer algorithm
optimized path of the fastest way to collect them all.
● The map rules are listed in simple terms on the image itself, and are explained in more detail in
the “Nirnroots Found” section of this guide.
Quests Completed requires you to finish each quest in a way that will move it to the completed section
of your quest journal.
Tips:
● This section of the guide will contain the majority of the info you will need for getting 100%
completion. This is because the vast majority of other objectives tend to be tied to quests in
various ways:
○ Some free skill boosts are able to be acquired by finishing quests in certain ways.
○ Three Oblivion Gates Shut are acquired during the Main Quest.
○ Several merchants that are part of the Stores Invested In accomplishment are
encountered through quests.
○ All 15 Artifacts Found are acquired during the Daedric Shrine Quests.
○ Many Skill Books are in convenient locations you already have to visit during quests, and
some are actually impossible to acquire later if you do not get them during certain
quests.
○ A few quests cause softlocks with the Places Found objective, most notably during the
Fighters Guild and Main Quest.
○ The majority of the Fame objective is directly dependent on how you finish certain
quests.
○ Many Nirnroots Found are in convenient locations during certain quests.
○ The Max Faction Ranks are awarded when specific quests are completed.
○ To get the Quest Journal Filled objective, a few additional quests need to be done in
certain ways, and in a certain order.
● This section will break down each quest and the specific other objectives and potential softlocks
to consider while doing it. For a summary of the tips and softlocks specific to a single
accomplishment, refer to the other sections of this guide.
○ All quests are listed, so quests that do not have additional bullet points under them have
no specific requirements to avoid softlocks.
○ Quests are listed by questline/category. The order these quests are listed in does not
guarantee that you will be able to get 100% completion by doing them in that order.
Make sure to familiarize yourself with the listed softlocks before completing quests.
3
○ There are numerous additional bugs that are specific to each quest that have known
workarounds. Only true softlocks are listed. Use the hyperlinks for each quest in the
100% Checklist to see a detailed list of bugs and info about each quest.
● The Thieves Guild questline has several cases where a quest can be completed along with a
Blood Price for “failing” it. These situations actually reward two quests completed each. More
info is provided in the Thieves Guild section below.
● Failing a quest will still count it as complete in most cases. For example, for the Speechcraft
Training quest, if you choose to kill a beggar instead of talking to all of them, the stat will still
increment in your journal even though you didn’t do what you were supposed to.
○ Be careful when doing this, as many quests that can be failed will not reward you Fame,
a faction rank, etc. if you fail them.
Tutorial
● Taking the Iron Key off the Goblin in the first rat area and making a save will give you an easy
way to reactivate the Perma Key Glitch if you want to be able to use it.
Deliver the Amulet
Find the Heir
Breaking the Siege of Kvatch
The Battle for Castle Kvatch
● The A Dance in Fire, v4 [Acrobatics] skill book is on a table in the Great Hall of Kvatch Castle.
● After finishing this quest, you can invest in Sigrid and Batul gra-Sharob back at the Kvatch camp.
Weynon Priory
● Make sure you discover Cloud Ruler Temple before starting this quest, or else you will never
be able to max out the Places Found accomplishment.
● Now that you can enter Cloud Ruler Temple, Legend of Krately House [Sneak] and Beggar
[Athletics] can be read in the East Wing and Great Hall.
The Path of Dawn
● Make sure you talk to Jauffre and accept his offer to join the Blades faction.
● Luther Broad can be invested in while you are in Luther Broad’s Boarding House.
● You can invest in Phintias while at the First Edition.
● You will acquire all four Mythic Dawn Commentaries skill books during this quest. Read them or
keep them somewhere safe for later reading.
● If Baurus survives, talking to him later at Cloud Ruler Temple will give you +1 to Blade, Block,
and Heavy Armor as long as they are below 90.
● If you watch the two Blades fight in the courtyard of Cloud Ruler Temple for a really long time,
you will get +2 to Blade and Block if those skills are below 90.
Dagon Shrine
4
● Make sure that Mankar Camoran actually enters the portal during this quest to avoid a softlock
later.
● After completing this quest, all Oblivion Gate locations on the map except for the Bruma Gate
will be able to be discovered and closed.
● As you escape Lake Arrius Caverns, in a chest past the final door before you exit the Shrine
Living Quarters there is the Sacred Witness [Sneak] skill book. Depending on how you choose
to escape the cave, you may never be able to go back and read this book.
● If you rescue Jeelius and talk to him at the Temple of the One in the Imperial City afterwards,
you will get +1 to Alchemy, Mysticism, and Restoration as long as they are below 90.
● After completing this quest, Mythic Dawn Agents begin revealing themselves and fighting you in
public. Try to avoid situations where NPCs fight each other, as this could lead to NPCs dying that
you will need for other objectives.
Spies
Blood of the Daedra
● You will need a Daedric Artifact to complete this quest, which will require you to complete one
of the Daedric Shrine quests. Giving the Artifact to Martin will not decrease your Artifacts
Found statistic.
Bruma Gate
● This quest unlocks the ability to discover the Bruma Gate location and close the gate. At this
point, every Oblivion Gate except for the Great Gate can be shut, and all places on the map can
be discovered with the exception of Serpent’s Trail depending on how far you’ve advanced the
Lifting the Vale quest.
Allies for Bruma
● You will need to get the aid of all the other 7 major cities including Kvatch in order to get all 7
Fame. This requires you to have completed Battle for Castle Kvatch, as well as closing the gate
that is right outside of each city.
○ The Wayward Knight quest is done during the Cheydinhal Oblivion Gate. Simply ignoring
Farwil and closing the gate without interacting with him will avoid him dying so that you
don’t miss the +2 Fame for that quest as well.
● If Count Regulus Terentius or Viera Lerus die before getting aid from Bravil, you will not be able
to get all 7 Fame.
● The display case behind the throne in Bravil Castle has the Battle for Sancre Tor [Blade] skill
book.
Blood of the Divines
Miscarcand
● After this quest is completed, the skill books The Warp in the West [Block], The Doors of
Oblivion [Conjuration] and The Refugees [Light Armor] are on the tables in front of Martin.
Defense of Bruma
● While you are in the Chapel in Bruma, in the Chapel Hall downstairs you can read 2920, Hearth
Fire (v9) [Conjuration] on the NW shelf in the first room.
Great Gate
5
● At this point, you can now close all 60 Oblivion Gates.
Paradise
● Make sure to discover all of the Oblivion Gates before doing this quest, since many random
Oblivion gates will be unable to spawn once this quest is completed, preventing you from
completing the Places Found and Oblivion Gates Shut objectives.
Light the Dragonfires
Imperial Dragon Armor
● Close all of the Oblivion Gates before doing this quest since all of the open gates will close
without giving you credit for them after you finish this quest, making it impossible to
complete the Oblivion Gates Shut objective.
● If you get kicked out of the Mages Guild three times before becoming the Arch Mage, all of
the below quests will become impossible to complete, and the max faction rank will be
unattainable.
○ This also means you will lose access to the Arcane University, preventing you from
reading the skill books Mannimarco, King of Worms [Alchemy], Song of the Alchemists
[Alchemy], Liminal Bridges [Conjuration], Response to Bero’s Speech [Destruction], The
Argonian Account, Book 3 [Illusion], and Before the Ages of Man [Mysticism] in the
various Arcane University facilities.
Bravil Recommendation
● Trying to do this quest and Through a Nightmare, Darkly will be potentially problematic since it
can alter Kud-Ei’s schedule.
Anvil Recommendation
Cheydinhal Recommendation
● There is a Nirnroot in the well.
● The Firsthold Revolt [Mysticism] is on bookshelf next to a crystal ball in the basement.
Fingers of the Mountain
● You need to give the book to Teekeeus to get +2 Fame, otherwise you will only get +1 Fame.
● A Game at Dinner [Alchemy] is on the SE bookshelf of the main floor.
Fingers of the Mountain, Part II
● You can tell Earana you won’t help her and the quest will still count as completed.
Skingrad Recommendation
● Lord Jornibret’s Last Dance [Light Armor] is on the table where you find Erthor.
● Daughter of the Niben [Alteration] is on a shelf in the Living Quarters of the guild hall.
Leyawiin Recommendation
Bruma Recommendation
● The Wolf Queen, v 3 [Illusion] is downstairs in the guild hall. It will become impossible to read
after the Information at a Price quest is completed.
6
○ More advanced players can try the Load Warping Glitch to get around this.
● You can invest in Selena Orania in the guild hall. She will become impossible to invest in after
the Information at a Price quest is completed.
○ More advanced players can try the Load Warping Glitch to get around this.
Join the Mages Guild
A Mage’s Staff
● If you want to use the Dorian Glitch to farm a lot of gold quickly, choosing the Mage’s Staff of
Paralysis gives you an easy paralysis spell to use for that.
Ulterior Motives
● If you haven’t talked to Glarthir yet, he may approach you during this quest and can potentially
die, making completing the Paranoid quest impossible.
Vahtacen’s Secret
Necromancer’s Moon
Liberation or Apprehension?
Information at a Price
● Read The Wolf Queen, v 3 [Illusion] downstairs in the Bruma Mages Guild Hall before finishing
this quest or you will never be able to read this skill book.
● Invest in Selena Orania in the Bruma Mages Guild Hall before finishing this quest or you will
never be able to invest in her.
● Now may be a good time to buy the Skingrad House from Shum gro-Yarug before he potentially
dies from falling off the bridge due to a bug, which would prevent you from getting 100%.
● In Janus Hassildor’s living quarters, you can read A Hypothetical Treachery [Destruction] on the
shelf to the right of the bed, and read The Wolf Queen, v 2 [Hand to Hand] on the south
bookshelf.
A Plot Revealed
The Bloodworm Helm
The Necromancer’s Amulet
Confront the King
● Complete Mages Guild Suspension and Mages Guild Second Suspension before finishing this
quest or you will be unable to complete them.
● There is a Nirnroot in the Arch-Mage’s Quarters.
Alchemy Acquisitions
● You can invest in Julienne Fanis during this quest.
7
● If you get expelled three times from the Fighters Guild, you will be unable to complete all the
quests and will be unable to get 100% completion.
● Do not become a Vampire before starting the Darkness Eternal quest from this questline or
else you will be unable to obtain the quest and get 100%.
● The contract bonuses for doing extra objectives are not required for 100% since they do not
increment any of the finite statistics. Failing these quests does not matter either since there is
no Fame tied to them.
● If you get permanently exiled by getting kicked out three times, you will be unable to
complete the Dark Brotherhood questline and be unable to get the maximum faction rank.
This means that the Eternal Exile quest is the only one in the game that cannot be completed.
● Many quests in this questline are just a simple starter quest to point you towards the next
contract giver, so they have been grouped with the primary quest they are associated with.
Darkness Eternal
● Start this quest before The Purification, or else you will not be able to complete it.
● You will not be able to start this quest if you are already a vampire.
● This quest can only be completed when Vicente dies.
A Dark Exile
● Complete this quest before The Purification, or else you will not be able to complete it.
Another Dark Exile
● Complete this quest before The Purification, or else you will not be able to complete it.
The Renegade Shadowscale
● Complete this quest before The Purification, or else you will not be able to complete it. There
is no failure state for this quest after starting it, so you have to complete the quest normally
before Teinaava dies to get the maximum Quests Completed.
● The Thieves Guild questline has several cases where a quest can be completed along with a
Blood Price for “failing” it. These situations actually reward two quests completed each, since
you complete one quest for paying off the Blood Price, and a second quest for doing the actual
quest itself. In most cases, completing the Blood Price actually automatically finishes the quest
it is associated with even if you didn’t actually steal the required item yet.
○ To complete a Blood Price, you will need to pay a fine to Armand (and sometimes the
Gray Fox.)
○ Each quest will have a specific note detailing how its Blood Price works, as they vary a bit
between quests.
Independent Thievery
● This quest has no Blood Price.
11
● This quest requires you to fence a total of 1000 gold, but will not complete itself until you have
finished the Thieves Guild questline.
● You can invest in Ongar the World-Weary while selling items to him.
Cast out of the Thieves Guild (Journal-Filled)
● Do this quest before The Ultimate Heist or you will never be able to start/finish it.
● This is a Journal-Filled quest. See the section about Journal-Filled quests for more info.
● This quest is considered done when you have looped it once (gotten kicked out and paid the
fine to get back in.)
● Failing any of the other Daedric Shrine quests will make it impossible to start the Hermaeus
Mora quest.
● Each Daedric Shrine quest has both Fame (except for Namira) and an artifact to count towards
the Artifacts Found accomplishment. In all cases, you will earn the Fame and Artifact by doing
the same thing. Each softlock will be listed, and in parentheses next to the quest name, the level
and item(s) required for starting each quest will be listed for convenience.
● Shrine quests are ordered by level requirement, but it is highly recommended that you read
about the Sanguine quest early since it has major issues that can cause softlocks.
● If any of the master trainers die before their quest is started, you will be unable to complete
their quest. Trainers that are extremely prone to dying will have a dedicated note about their
potential softlocks.
○ Additionally if both the Advanced Trainers that can recommend the quest to you die,
you will be unable to start that Master Training quest. In general this is incredibly
unlikely as most trainers have simple schedules, but it is still recommended to start
these quests early if possible.
● All of these quests can be failed by killing the trainer without compromising 100% Completion
as long as you started the quest before the NPC died.
● Starting these quests requires getting to level 70 at a skill (which can be artificially boosted with
a spell) and then talking to an Advanced Trainer of that skill about finding further training.
Acrobatics Training
● Torbern lives outdoors, which may result in him dying randomly to wildlife at higher levels,
although this is generally unlikely.
Alchemy Training
● If you choose to kill Sinderion instead of doing the quest properly, make sure you have
already invested in him and completed Seeking Your Roots, otherwise you will not get +1
Fame from that quest.
● You can invest in Sinderion while doing this quest.
Alteration Training
15
● Tooth-in-the-Sea lives outdoors, which may result in him dying randomly to wildlife at higher
levels, although this is generally unlikely.
Armorer Training
Athletics Training
Blade Training
Block Training
Blunt Training
Conjuration Training
● Olyn Seran lives outdoors, which may result in him dying randomly to wildlife at higher levels,
although this is generally unlikely.
Destruction Training
● Bralsa Andaren lives outdoors, which may result in her dying randomly to wildlife at higher
levels, although this is generally unlikely.
Hand to Hand Training
● If you choose to kill Helvius Cecia for this quest, make sure you have already completed the
Turning a Blind Eye quest from the Thieves Guild, or else that quest will become impossible to
finish.
Heavy Armor Training
Illusion Training
● You need Welkynd Stones to complete this quest, which do not respawn anywhere in the game,
so if you have used them all you will have to kill Martina Floria to complete this quest.
Light Armor Training
Marksman Training
● Alawen is extremely prone to dying since she lives outdoors and goes hunting. Try to start this
quest as early as possible to avoid this very likely softlock.
Mercantile Training
Mysticism Training
● You cannot complete this quest until after you have helped Dagail during Leyawiin
Recommendation. She cannot be killed so you also need to actually close 3 Oblivion Gates,
which can only be done after completing Find the Heir.
Restoration Training
● You can softlock this quest by not starting it, then completing The Battle for Castle Kvatch to
move Oleta out of the Chapel, and then have her die to wildlife since she now lives outdoors,
but this is a very unlikely outcome.
Security Training
Sneak Training
Speechcraft Training
● Although you can’t kill Tandilwe, you can kill any beggar after starting this quest without
compromising 100% Completion.
Newheim’s Flagon
Where the Spirits Have Lease
● If Wilbur dies, this quest will become impossible to complete.
● You can invest in Wilbur at The Count’s Arms, and Ley Marillin at the King and Queen Tavern.
The Siren’s Deception
● If you kill the Sirens before they talk to you at the farmhouse, you will not get the +1 Fame
and be unable to get maximum Fame.
The Ghost Ship of Anvil
● If Varulae dies before starting this quest, you will be unable to start it and won’t be able to
complete it.
Paranoia
● You have to show Glarthir’s note to a guard to get the +1 Fame for this quest.
● Declining Glarthir’s initial offer, or killing him will make it so that you are unable to earn the
+1 Fame.
Buying a house in Skingrad
● If Shum gro-Yarug dies due to a bug where he can accidentally walk off the bridge to Castle
Skingrad, you will be unable to start this quest.
● If Gunder dies, you will be unable to complete this quest.
● You can invest in Gunder during this quest.
Helping Hands
● If Eyja dies before starting this quest, you will be unable to start/complete it.
The Rosethorn Cache
Seeking Your Roots
● If Sinderion dies, you will be unable to get the +1 Fame for this quest.
● You can invest in Sinderion during this quest.
A Venerable Vintage
● You can invest in Nerussa during this quest.
20
Bear Season
● Thorley is prone to dying since he spends most of his day outdoors near bears. It is highly
recommended that you at least start this quest early since you will be unable to start the
quest if he dies.
● You can kill Thorley after starting the quest and still get 100% Completion, but this is not
recommended since he will reward you with a random loot skill book. See the Skill Books Read
section for more info.
Go Fish
● Make sure to start this quest before Aelwin Merowald dies. Killing him to complete the quest
will still allow you to get 100% Completion.
● Choosing the “Laugh in his face” dialogue option permanently stops you from being able to
start this quest.
Goblin Trouble
No Stone Unturned
● Make sure to start this quest before Lithnilian dies. Killing him to complete the quest will still
allow you to get 100% Completion.
● You can invest in Davela Hlaren during this quest.
● The skill book Calcinator Treatise [Alchemy] is under a bed on the top floor.
Revenge Served Cold
● Make sure to start this quest before Corrick Northwode dies. Killing him to complete the quest
will still allow you to get 100% Completion.
The Gravefinder’s Repose
● You can invest in Malene during this quest.
The Potato Snatcher
● Make sure to start this quest before S’jirra dies. Killing her to complete the quest will still allow
you to get 100% Completion.
● You can invest in Abhuki during this quest.
The Sunken One
When the Vow Breaks
● Make sure to start this quest before Maeva dies. Killing her to complete the quest will still
allow you to get 100% Completion.
Zero Visibility
● The skill book Mystery of Talara, v 4 [Illusion] is under the desk on the second floor of the
tower.
21 Master Skills
Master Skills requires you to get to level 100 for each of the skills in the game.
Tips:
21
● This stat will only increment if the base value of the skill is 100 or higher. This means that skills
that are fortified to be above 100, or damaged/drained to be below 100 will not affect the stat.
○ One implication of this is that you can use the Skeleton Key to more quickly raise your
Security. It provides a +40 Security effect that is actually modifying the base value of
your skill, meaning that if you get your Security to 60 and then pick up the Skeleton Key,
the Master Skills accomplishment will increment.
○ If a skill gets lowered from going to jail, you will have to raise that skill again.
● Training is highly recommended in order to achieve this objective. You get 5 levels of training to
purchase per character level.
○ Casting a simple drain skill 100 points on self spell before talking to a trainer will allow
you to buy training from them even if you are normally too high of level to be trained by
that person. The training will also cost significantly less by doing this.
○ The Infinite Level-Up Glitch will allow you to increase your character level way beyond
what your major skill cap would normally allow, which enables you to buy significantly
more training than before. See the Glitch Reference Guide for more information.
○ Minimizing the attributes you gain per level will allow you to level up way more times,
since you stop leveling up once all of your attributes are 100.
○ Athletics, Marksman, Mercantile, and Speechcraft are the most time consuming and
tedious skills to farm manually, so buying training for these is recommended.
● You can get a few free skill boosts by doing the following optional things:
○ If you rescue Jeelius during the Dagon Shrine quest and talk to him at the Temple of the
One in the Imperial City afterwards, you will get +1 to Alchemy, Mysticism, and
Restoration as long as they are below 90.
○ If Baurus survives The Path of Dawn quest, talking to him later at Cloud Ruler Temple
will give you +1 to Blade, Block, and Heavy Armor as long as they are below 90.
○ When you tell Arvena that Quill-Weave was responsible during A Rat Problem, you will
get +1 Speechcraft.
○ When you keep Dar-Ma alive and complete A Shadow Over Hackdirt, you will get +5
Mercantile.
○ When you read the Oghma Infinium after finishing the Hermaeus Mora quest, you will
get one of the following bonuses depending on what path you choose:
■ Path of Steel: +10 to Blade, Blunt, and Heavy Armor
■ Path of Shadow: +10 to Light Armor, Security, and Sneak
■ Path of Spirit: +10 to Conjuration, Destruction, and Restoration
○ If you watch the two Blades fight in the courtyard of Cloud Ruler Temple for a really long
time, you will get +2 to Blade and Block if they are below 90.
○ If you watch the brawlers fight in the pillar area outside the Arena for long enough, you
will get +5 to Hand to Hand if it is below 90.
● Here are basic strategies for farming each skill efficiently. Refer to this video we made for more
detailed information on each of these strategies:
22
○ Armorer: Corrode Armor 100 points on Self spell to quickly damage a single high-tier
Heavy Armor Cuirass, then drain Armorer 100 points on Self spell when repairing to
repair more times per damage cycle.
○ Athletics: Auto-swim into a wall with a water breathing item equipped.
○ Blade/Blunt/Hand to Hand/Marksman: Hold block while attacking a horse you own on
the maximum difficulty, using a dagger, war axe, fists, or any bow for the fastest attack
speed.
○ Block: Attack the Bruma Barracks Guards and drink healing potions while blocking hits.
○ Light Armor/Heavy Armor: Wear only a shield and a one-handed weapon. Attack the
Bruma Barracks Guards and then sheathe your weapon and drink healing potions while
taking hits.
○ Alchemy: Dupe any two restore fatigue ingredients and spam craft potions using them.
○ Magic: Hold block with a one-handed weapon while casting the following spell for each
magic skill. Make sure the effects are in the exact order specified:
■ Alteration
● Shield (On Touch, 3%, 1 second)
● Fortify Magicka (Self, 21 points, 2 seconds)
■ Conjuration
● Turn Undead (On Touch, 0 points, 1 second)
● Fortify Magicka (Self, 21 points, 2 seconds)
■ Destruction
● Damage Fatigue (On Touch, 3 points, 1 second)
● Fortify Magicka (Self, 21 points, 2 seconds)
■ Illusion
● Light (On Touch, 3 ft, 1 second)
● Fortify Magicka (Self, 21 points, 2 seconds)
■ Mysticism
● Dispel (On Touch, 3 points)
● Fortify Magicka (Self, 21 points, 2 seconds)
■ Restoration
● Fortify Magicka (Self, 21 points, 2 seconds)
● Light (On Touch, 3 ft, 1 second)
○ Acrobatics: Spam jump under the dock at the Imperial City Waterfront District.
○ Mercantile: Dupe and sell items one by one. If you have items in stacks of two or less
you can use the up arrow key and enter key to spam sell items much faster. See the
video linked above for a visual reference of how to do this.
○ Security: Dupe lockpicks, cast a Drain Security 100 points on Self spell and spam
auto-attempt on a very hard lock.
○ Sneak: Spam entering/exiting the pickpocket inventory of a character with low
responsibility, such as the Adoring Fan or a member of the Skooma Den in Bravil.
○ Speechcraft: Spam the mini-game without trying to win.
23
Softlocks:
● Although there are no situations where you are unable to continue leveling a skill, keep in mind
that getting a skill to 100 before all of its skill books have been read will prevent you from being
able to max out the Skill Books Read statistic. Refer to the section about skill books for more
info.
Oblivion Gates Shut requires you to shut all of the possible gates that appear on the map throughout
the Main Quest.
Tips:
● This objective is most easily achieved simultaneously with the Places Found accomplishment,
since they both use the provided Oblivion Map.
● Oblivion gates have several different labels on the Oblivion Map:
○ Pink circled gates are guaranteed to be at those 17 locations after completing the Dagon
Shrine quest.
■ The 5 Pink circled gates with a green + symbol reward 2 Fame instead of 1, and
are checked off on the checklist separately. They are referred to as Fixed Double
Fame Gates, while all other pink gates are called Fixed Single Fame Gates.
■ Pink circled gates with a blue ∗ symbol have a set Oblivion realm that cannot be
rerolled. All other gates can be quicksaved in front of, entered, and quickloaded
to reroll what layout you get.
○ Black circled gates are checked off on the checklist separately since they are tied to
specific quests. This is the Kvatch Gate, the Bruma Gate, and the Great Gate, and will
always appear at those locations throughout the Main Quest.
○ Uncircled gates are the potential locations of the 40 randomly spawning gates that can
appear after completing Dagon Shrine. The chance of one appearing is rolled each time
you enter the loading zone for that gate, so you may have to check locations you’ve
already been to if you are missing any random gates after checking the whole map.
■ It is recommended that you check off the random gate locations differently to
denote which ones had no gate at them to make double checking these locations
easier later.
Softlocks:
● If you are familiar with the Instant Gate Closing Glitch, do not use it. This glitch fails to award
you the Fame for closing the gate, making the Fame objective impossible.
● Discover all of the Oblivion Gates before finishing the Paradise quest, since the amount of
random gates that can appear is reduced significantly at that point, preventing you from being
able to find and close the maximum number of gates.
24
● Close all of the Oblivion Gates before finishing the Light the Dragonfires quest, since all gates
will automatically close at this point without incrementing the stat, preventing you from getting
the maximum Oblivion Gates Shut.
7 Horses Owned
Horses Owned requires you to purchase the horse that is at each stable outside of the major cities
(Imperial City and Kvatch excluded).
Tips:
● The Unicorn, Shadowmere, Prior Maborel’s Paint Horse, and any other horses outside of these 7
horses from stables will not count towards this statistic.
● If a purchased horse dies, you will need to repurchase it since the stat will decrease.
● The total cost to purchase all 7 horses is 14,500 gold.
Softlocks:
● If an NPC that sells you a horse dies, you can no longer complete this objective. These NPCs
have extremely simple schedules, so it is almost impossible for them to die on their own.
8 Houses Owned
Houses Owned requires you to purchase each of the 8 houses in the major cities (Kvatch excluded).
Tips:
● Purchasing the home furnishings is not required for this objective, although you will have to do
this anyway for the Quests Completed accomplishment.
● The total cost to purchase all 8 houses is 88,000 gold. Consider using the Dorian Glitch,
mentioned in the Glitch Reference Guide to gain money easily.
● Many of the NPCs that will sell you a home require their disposition to be raised to a certain
amount before they will sell you the house.
Softlocks:
● If Count Regulus Terentius dies, you can no longer purchase the Bravil House from him.
● If Vinicia Melissaeia dies, you can no longer purchase the Imperial City House.
● Shum gro-Yarug can accidentally walk off the bridge to Castle Skingrad and die, making it
impossible to buy the Skingrad House.
○ It is highly recommended that you purchase the Skingrad house as early as possible,
and avoid going near Skingrad between 10am and 3pm when he walks on the bridge
until then.
○ This is particularly annoying because this house costs 25,000 gold and you also need 15
Fame before you can buy it.
25
○ Shum gro-Yarug requires 70+ disposition, which may be hard to get at an early level. A
small exploit is to raise his disposition as high as it will go while your weapon is drawn,
then put your weapon away to get his disposition +10 higher than you normally could.
94 Stores Invested In
Stores Invested In requires using the game mechanic you unlock at level 75 Mercantile perk to invest
500 gold in every merchant in the game.
Tips:
● By making a spell that Fortifies Mercantile 75 points for 1 second on Self, you can temporarily
gain the investing perk when talking to merchants if you cast it right before talking to them. This
makes this objective way easier since you can start investing early on without having to get your
Mercantile way up first, reducing the risk of merchants dying.
○ If the spell doesn’t work on a merchant, verify that your Spell Effectiveness is not below
100% or your Mercantile isn’t damaged from other effects.
● Investing in all 94 merchants will cost a total of 47,000 gold. Consider using the Dorian Glitch
mentioned in the Glitch Reference Guide to gain money easily.
● Not all merchants are able to be invested in, and some non-merchants are able to be invested in
as well due to programming errors. The 100% Checklist includes all NPCs that can be invested in.
● Manheim Maulhand may not talk to you if his disposition towards you is below 30, making
investing in him impossible until you use a charm spell on him.
● Due to a bug, Magra gro-Naybek is usually locked in the basement of Borba’s Goods and Stores
in Cheydinhal.
● Due to a bug, Fathis Ules will usually be stuck inside of Dul gro-Shug’s House in the Elven
Gardens District, unless you have completed the Legacy Lost quest that moves him to Chorrol.
Softlocks:
● In general, if any of the merchants die, this objective will become impossible to complete. The
majority of merchants have simple schedules that will almost never put them at risk of dying.
○ Try to avoid situations where NPCs fight each other in cities, especially after completing
the Dagon Shrine quest, when Mythic Dawn Agents begin revealing themselves and
fighting you in public.
● Invest in Selena Orania before she dies at the start of the A Plot Revealed quest.
● Invest in Andreas Draconis before you have to kill him during the Next of Kin quest.
● Invest in Etira Moslin and Vlanhonder Mosiln before they potentially die or stop talking to you
after the A Shadow Over Hackdirt quest.
● Invest in Kirsten before she potentially dies or stops talking to you after the Mephala quest.
● Engorm is essential until you complete the Sanguine quest, at which point he could potentially
die since he lives outdoors where creatures could kill him.
26
● Daenlin’s schedule has him hunt in the woods occasionally, potentially resulting in his death if
you are at a high level with more dangerous enemies spawning around the map.
● During May the Best Thief Win if you kill Rohssan to trigger the Blood Price, you would not be
able to invest in her. Simply killing Amantius Allectus instead will avoid this problem.
15 Artifacts Found
Artifacts Found requires completing each of the Daedric Shrine quests in a way that you are rewarded
the Daedric Artifact, rather than failing the quest.
Tips:
● You do not need to keep the artifacts in your inventory. The statistic will never decrease once
you have already been awarded the artifact.
● With the exception of Namira, Fame is tied directly to the same success conditions for acquiring
the Artifacts. For this reason, this section only briefly summarizes the Artifacts Found softlock
info, with more detailed information about Artifacts and Fame for these quests listed in the
Quests Completed section.
● The 100% Checklist will automatically track your Artifacts Found as long as you are completing
each Daedric Shrine quest properly.
Softlocks:
● During the Clavicus Vile quest, you must choose to return the Umbra Sword to receive the
Masque of Clavicus Vile.
● During the Malacath quest, you cannot kill any of the ogres or else you will not receive
Volendrung.
○ Guards in the mine will continue to randomly hunt you down later in the game if you do
not kill them during this quest, which can cause unexpected instances of NPC combat.
They will usually spawn next to you after you go to jail or pay a gold fine.
● The Mephala quest has several potential softlocks:
○ If you get caught for any crime in Bleaker’s Way during or even before starting this quest,
you will be unable to get the Ebony Blade artifact.
○ If you kill everybody in Bleaker’s Way before you properly plant the evidence, you will
fail this quest.
○ The only correct way to complete this quest is to properly kill each of the clan leaders,
plant the evidence on both bodies, and report the attacks to another NPC at Bleaker’s
Way.
○ You also need to invest in Kirsten before finishing this quest or else she will not be able
to be invested in anymore.
● The Molag Bal quest has a few potential softlocks:
○ Accidentally selling or dropping the Cursed Mace will make it impossible to receive the
Mace of Molag Bal artifact.
27
○ Killing Melus Petilius will fail the quest.
○ Being killed by Melus Petilius without him using the Cursed Mace will also fail the quest.
● During the Namira quest, if you kill any of the priests of Arkay without letting the Forgotten do
it themselves, or you kill any of the Forgotten, you will be unable to receive the Ring of Namira
artifact.
● During the Sanguine quest, if you fail to cast the Stark Reality spell properly, such as it not
hitting the Countess, you will be unable to receive the Sanguine Rose artifact.
Skill Books Read requires you to read each of the unique skill books in the game.
Tips:
● Reading a skill book you have already read will not increase the stat again, even if it is another
copy of the book.
● This stat only increments if you actually gained a skill point from reading the book. If you are
already level 100+ at a skill when you read a skill book for it, the stat will not increment.
● The 100% Checklist page about skill books includes a link to a list of all skill books and their
locations in the game. The Quests Completed section lists ones that can be easily encountered
during various quests throughout the game.
● 13 of the skill books can only be found in random loot. These 13 books are bolded on the 100%
Checklist tab for skill books.
○ Of these 13 books, The Argonian Account, Book 1, History of the Fighters Guild, and
Mace Etiquette are all possible rewards during the Bear Season quest. You can
quicksave right before finishing this quest to reroll which book you get.
○ The Two Sides of the Coin quest rewards two of the random loot exclusive skill books,
one of which is always guaranteed to be a Stealth skill book, and one which will either be
for a Magic or Combat skill.
○ Skill books have a 10% of appearing in the boss chest of certain types of dungeons.
■ Stealth skill books can appear in Bandit and Vampire dungeons.
■ Magic skill books can appear in Conjurer and Necromancer dungeons.
■ Combat skill books can appear in Marauder and Undead dungeons.
○ Loot in chests can be rerolled by quicksaving outside of a dungeon before entering it,
then reloading after going in and checking the boss chests.
○ Loot refreshes in a dungeon 73 hours after you last looted it.
○ It is easiest to cycle between 3 dungeons, one of each type of skill book drop, and reroll
at each once until you get a new book, then wait 73 hours after looting all 3 dungeons,
then repeat until all books have been found. Fort Dirich, Moss Rock Cavern, and Imperial
City Sewers - North Exit are extremely short dungeons to check that each have two boss
chests in them.
28
Softlocks:
● As previously stated, if you are already level 100+ at a skill when you read a skill book for it,
the stat will not increment. It is safer to read skill books earlier to avoid this.
○ Worst case, a few skills (Armorer, Athletics, Blade, Block, Blunt, Hand to Hand, Heavy
Armor, Alchemy, Alteration) can be lowered by going to jail to make reading the skill
book actually count. This is not possible with the other skills.
● If you do not read The Lunar Lorkhan before exiting Henantier’s Dreamworld during the
Through A Nightmare, Darkly quest, you will be unable to read the book later.
● If you do not read The Wolf Queen, v 3 in the Bruma Mages Guild Basement before starting the
A Plot Revealed quest, you will no longer be able to read the book.
○ If you are familiar with the Load Warping Glitch, you can use an older save file to load
warp your current character into the old version of the Bruma Mages Guild to get
around this softlock. See the Glitch Reference Guide for more information.
● The Ultimate Heist quest has three things to keep in mind:
○ If you fail The Ultimate Heist quest, you will be unable to unlock Dareloth’s house, and
therefore be unable to read Proper Lock Design.
○ If you do not read 2920, Second Seed (v5) in the Imperial Battlemage’s Chambers before
exiting through the fireplace during The Ultimate Heist, you will be unable to read this
book.
○ Although you can technically get back to it, also reading Fire and Darkness in the Hall of
Epochs during The Ultimate Heist quest will save you a lot of time having to backtrack
otherwise.
● If you get permanently expelled from the Dark Brotherhood, you will not be able to get back
into the Sanctuary to read The Rear Guard, The Gold Ribbon of Merit, and The Wolf Queen, v 6
● If you get permanently expelled from the Mages Guild, you will be unable to access any of the
Arcane University facilities, preventing you from reading Mannimarco, King of Worms, Song of
the Alchemists, Liminal Bridges, Response to Bero’s Speech, The Argonian Account, Book 3,
and Before the Ages of Man.
● Depending on how you escape from Lake Arrius Caverns during the Dagon Shrine quest, you
may be unable to go back and read Sacred Witness if you do not read it before exiting the cave.
● You should read or store the Mythic Dawn Commentaries 1-4 somewhere safe when you
acquire them all during the Path of Dawn quest, as some of these books cannot easily be found
later.
Tips:
● Use the provided Oblivion Map to help discover locations much easier. The map has several
labels on it to help locate everything:
29
○ Locations with blue squares around them have text explaining additional rules about
how those locations work:
■ Smuggler’s Cave has a Nirnroot and The Locked Room skill book, but is not
technically a discoverable location.
■ The Bruma Gate cannot be discovered until the Bruma Gate quest. The Great
Gate is not a discoverable location.
■ Serpent’s Trail can only be discovered after you have partially completed the
Lifting the Vale quest.
○ Oblivion gates have several different labels:
■ Pink circled gates are guaranteed to be at those 17 locations after completing
the Dagon Shrine quest.
● The 5 Pink circled gates with a green + symbol reward 2 Fame instead of
1, and are checked off on the checklist separately. They are referred to as
Fixed Double Fame Gates, while all other pink gates are called Fixed
Single Fame Gates.
● Pink circled gates with a blue ∗ symbol have a set Oblivion realm that
cannot be rerolled. All other gates can be quicksaved in front of, entered,
and quickloaded to reroll what layout you get.
■ Black circled gates are checked off on the checklist separately since they are tied
to specific quests. This is the Kvatch Gate, the Bruma Gate, and the Great Gate,
and will always appear at those locations throughout the Main Quest.
■ Uncircled gates are the potential locations of the 40 randomly spawning gates
that can appear after completing Dagon Shrine. The chance of one appearing is
rolled each time you enter the loading zone for that gate, so you may have to
check locations you’ve already been to if you are missing any random gates after
checking the whole map.
● It is recommended that you check off the random gate locations
differently to denote which ones had no gate at them to make double
checking these locations easier later.
○ Additionally, the map includes info for finding the Wayshrines and Heaven Stones. Teal
Squares are each of the 9 Wayshrines, and Dark Red Diamonds are the 7 Heaven
Stones. See the Permanent Greater Powers section for more info.
Softlocks:
● Discover Arpenia before starting the Azani Blackheart quest, or else you will never be able to
discover it.
● Discover Sedor before starting The Stone of St. Alessia quest, or else you will never be able to
discover it.
● Discover Cloud Ruler Temple before starting the Weynon Priory quest, or else you will never be
able to discover it.
30
● Discover all of the Oblivion Gates before finishing the Paradise quest, since the amount of
random gates that can appear at that point is reduced significantly, preventing you from getting
the maximum Places Found.
198 Fame
Fame requires you to complete a variety of objectives in specific ways. This includes the Main Quests,
Fighters Guild Quests, Mages Guild Quests, Daedric Shrine Quests, Side Quests, winning each Arena
fight, and closing all 60 Oblivion Gates correctly.
Tips:
● Fame can never decrease, and objectives that reward fame cannot be completed multiple
times.
● Fame is always tied to other accomplishments, so the specifics of how each Fame point is
earned will be described in the relevant sections of this guide. This includes the Quests
Completed and Oblivion Gates Shut sections.
● The 100% Checklist automatically tracks your Fame, so as long as you complete each objective
in a way that avoids softlocks, you do not have to manually track this accomplishment yourself.
Softlocks:
● Several of the questlines, particularly side quests, have ways in which you can “fail” a quest or
make a decision that results in not receiving Fame. Refer to the Quests Completed section of
this guide for more specific info.
● Getting permanently banned from the Arena by getting disqualified twice for taking off your
Raiment during a fight will result in you being unable to ever get the Fame from the fights you
haven’t finished.
● Oblivion Gates can fail to award you the Fame if you attempt to use the Instant Gate Closing
Glitch, or if you fail to discover/close all the gates before advancing the Main Quest too far.
Refer to the Oblivion Gates Shut section of this guide for more info.
Nirnroots Found requires you to harvest all of the Nirnroot in the game. This includes all the indoor
locations, outdoor locations, and locations outside in cities.
Tips:
● Nirnroot that is dropped and picked up again will not increment the statistic. There is currently
no known way to increment the statistic other than by harvesting the plant directly.
● Use the Nirnroot Map and the Nirnroot Pocket Handbook to acquire all of the outdoor Nirnroot.
31
○ On the Nirnroot Map, start at the first Nirnroot and follow the path to find them all. Use
the Pocket Handbook for visual references of where exactly each plant is located.
■ Nirnroot that circled in green are within city walls and are not part of the path.
○ Make sure you notate how many Nirnroots Found you started at before attempting
following this path. It is recommended you periodically check to make sure you haven’t
skipped a Nirnroot by mistake. A few checkpoints are in the Handbook to make sure you
are tracking things accurately at key points:
■ Route Start: Your starting Nirnroots Found value before starting this.
■ Swamp Start: 161 + Route Start
■ Swamp End: 197 + Route Start
■ Route End: 254 + Route Start
Softlocks:
● If you get permanently kicked out of the Mages Guild before finishing Cheydinhal
Recommendation, you may not be able to get the key to get into the Well, preventing you from
getting the Nirnroot.
○ The Perma Key Glitch will get around this softlock. Refer to the Glitch Reference Guide
for how to do this.
● Getting permanently expelled from the Mages Guild will lock you out of the Arcane University’s
facilities, preventing you from getting the Nirnroot in the Mages Quarters.
● Getting permanently expelled from the Fighters Guild will prevent you from getting the
Nirnroot in Jeetum-Ze’s room in the Blackwood Company Building.
○ The Perma Key Glitch will get around this softlock.
To get the max rank of all 10 factions, you need to finish all the relevant quests and objectives that
unlock each one:
Softlocks:
● If you get permanently expelled from the Dark Brotherhood, the Fighters Guild, or the Mages
Guild, you will be unable to get those faction ranks maxed out.
● If you get disqualified from the Arena twice by not wearing the raiment during a fight, you will
be permanently kicked out and will be unable to rejoin this faction.
● If you decline Jaufree’s offer to join the Blades, he can potentially die later in the main quest,
preventing you from ever joining that faction.
● If Farwil dies during The Wayward Knight quest, you will be unable to join the Knights of the
Thorn.
● If you fail the Mazoga the Orc quest via Mazoga or Weebam-Na dying, you will be unable to
start the Knights of the White Stallion quest. Mazoga dying before you can kill Black Brugo
during the Knights of the White Stallion quest will prevent you from being able to join that
faction.
● If Ralsa Norvalo dies before you accept her offer, you will not be able to start the Order of the
Virtuous Blood quest. If you kill Roland Jenseric instead of Seridur during this quest, you will be
unable to join this faction.
● If you get caught before you are able to obtain the Elder Scroll during The Ultimate Heist quest,
you will be unable to reach the max rank of the Thieves Guild.
The permanent Greater Powers are the 7 that are from each Heaven Stone, and Pilgrim’s Grace, which
is acquired by praying at all 9 Wayshrines.
Tips:
● Greater Powers that are temporary or race-specific do not count towards this objective.
● The 7 Heaven Stones require having a certain amount of Renown to activate each one. Renown
is the sum of your Fame and Infamy. The Heaven Stones require anywhere from 10 to 70
Renown depending on the stone.
● Heaven Stones can only be activated between 6pm and 6am.
● The 9 Wayshrines can be activated in any order, and will only fail to activate if you have already
activated that particular shrine at your current Fame level.
● Refer to the provided Oblivion Map for the location of each Wayshrine and Heaven Stone. Teal
Squares are each of the 9 Wayshrines, and Dark Red Diamonds are the 7 Heaven Stones. See
the Permanent Greater Powers section for more info.
33
Softlocks:
● Currently there are no known potential softlocks that exist for this requirement.
This objective requires you to “complete” each quest that cannot officially be completed in your journal
by advancing the quest’s journal entries as far as they will go, or until the journal entries loop. There
are only four quests that are considered “Journal Filled” quests, and they should be completed until
they have the following journal entries/conditions:
● Cast out of the Thieves Guild - Looped once (Paid the fine/blood price)
● Whispers of Death - In journal (No update possible)
● The Arena - “As Arena Grand Champion, I can fight in weekly matches against various...”
● Expelled from the Fighters Guild - “I have been reinstated into the Fighters Guild once again...”
Tips:
● For convenience, these quests and their conditions are also mentioned in the Quests Completed
section of this guide.
Softlocks:
● If you get kicked out of the Arena by being disqualified twice, you will not be able to fill the
journal entries for The Arena quest.
● If you get permanently expelled from the Dark Brotherhood, you will not be able to get the
Whispers of Death journal entry.
● If you do not fill the journal entries for the Expelled from the Fighters Guild quest before
finishing The Hist quest, you will be unable to finish this objective.
