There are three types of polarisation:

• Elliptical – This is the most general case where the x and y


components are out of phase and have different magnitudes.

• Circular – A special case of elliptical, where the magnitudes are equal


and the two component fields are out of phase by 90°

• Linear – Both components are in phase
