A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 8

Date: May 8, 2023

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
A. Define mitosis and Meiosis.
B. Differentiate Mitosis and Meiosis based from the videos presented.
C. Give the significance of mitosis in the production of the body cells and meiosis in the
production of the sex cells
II. SUBJECT MATTER
 Cell Cycle/Division

III. LERANING RESOURCES

IV. PROCEDURE
Parts Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Responses
A. Preparation 1. Prayer
Please all stand for a prayer” (Students will stand up,
“The lords prayer” bow their heads, and
pray)
2. Greetings
“ Good Morning , class!” “Good Morning Ma’am!”

“You may now take your seats” “Thank you ma’am ”

“ I am teacher Sharen A. Bergado and I

will be your Science teacher for today.”

3. Attendance (Students will say present

“Lets check first your attendance” as the teacher calls in
(The teacher will start the roll call) their name)

4. Reminders
“listen attentively”
“focus to our discussion”
“avoid unnecessary noise”
“ if you are doing unrelated to our subject
will be confiscated.”

“Is that clear?” “Yes ma'am ”

1. ELICIT Review
“Before moving on to the next lesson, we
will first review the previous lesson.

Rearranged the words to their right order Student1:

PHSAEPRO PROPHASE
TAPHASEME Student2:
ANPHSAEA METAPHASE
LOTEPHAES Student3:
“Very good!” ANAPHASE
Student4:
“Good to hear that you can still TELOPHASE
remember the topic you had last
meeting.”

2. ENGAGE “Before we to our discussion for today I

will show you a short videos so that it is
easy for you to guess our next lesson.”

“And all of you should listen carefully

because we will be having an activity
after the video presentation.

‘”Is that clear?” “yes, ma’am”

The teacher will show a short video

presentation about mitosis and meiosis

Based from the video, students will be

given an overview about Mitosis and
Meiosis.

Now based from the video presentation, “It’s about the cell
what would be our lesson for today will division/mitosis and
be? meiosis.

‘Okay, very good!”

Based from the video, students will be

given an overview about Mitosis and
Meiosis.

3. EXPLORE “Group Activity”

The teacher will group them according to
the number of the students in the class.

Instructions- Using manila

paper/cartolina and markers, make a
table showing the difference between
Mitosis and Meiosis. (each group start doing
their activity)
4. EXPLAIN The teacher will now discuss and call
somebody to answer the following
questions:
Student1: Genetics is the
1. What is Genetic? study of genes, genetic
2. Who is Gregor Mendel? variation, and heredity in
3. What is the difference between living organisms.
mitosis and meiosis?
Student2: He is the
father of genetics

Student3: Mitosis is a
process where a single cell
divides into two identical
daughter cells (cell
division). While, meiosis is
a process where a single
cell divides twice to
produce four cells
containing half the
original amount of genetic
information. These cells
are our sex cells – sperm
in males, eggs in females.

5. Elaborate The teacher will present an image with

description to the class and give
corresponding question.

The teacher will call a student to answer

the question.
Student: Cancer cells is
Explain the existence of cancer cells. due to the abnormal cell
division in the body.

6. EVALUATION Are you ready for our quiz? “We are ready ma’am”
“Let’s have a quiz.” “Okay ma’am”

Based from activity and presentation of

the students.

Point of Mitosis Meiosis “Students will start

Comparison answering”
1. Type of cells
involved

2. Number of
cell division

3. Number of
chromosomes in
the parent cell

4. Number of
chromosomes in
the daughter
cell

5. Biological
significance

7. EXTEND
“In your assignment notebook search and
answer the following:”
Assignment Notebook: “Okay ma'am”
1. What are the different stages of
Mitosis?
2. What are the significant
happenings during Prophase,
Metaphase, Anaphase and
Telophase?
“Good bye and Thank
That would be all for today, Good bye You, ma’am”
and Thank You!
