(Persuasive Writing) Should Cell Phones Be Allowed in School?

Debate the benefits and drawbacks of allowing students to use cell phones in school.

Is your cellphone so important to you that you cannot live without it? Cellphones have been the most
used material possession in this generation. Nowadays, anywhere you go, you can obviously see almost
everyone carrying their cellphones, even kids. Using cellphones at school should be allowed, as it can
actually help students academically and emotionally. As long as cellphones are used respectfully,
responsibly, and with moderation, they have many benefits for students.

Using a cellphone can help students in many ways. First, academically, using cellphones can help
students work independently, and it can also motivate them to learn. Students may occasionally find it
difficult to understand the lesson in school, and a cellphone would be of great help at times like this.
To further aid in their understanding of the subject, they can watch videos online. Teachers even use
their laptops to present their lessons and would later send their presentations online, allowing students
to have easier access to their lessons. It would actually be a hassle if students had to write down
everything that the teacher presented, and it is such a waste of time. In that case, instead of wasting
time on writing, students should just listen attentively to their teachers so they can understand the
lesson better and improve engagement in class. Another thing is the importance of cellphones for
announcements. Examples include schedules, concerns of students, and the sending of PowerPoint
presentations. In that case, the sharing of information is now faster and more convenient. Next is
emotionally; in terms of emergencies, cellphones are used to ask for help. Cellphones even serve as
comfort for some students who are stressed and exhausted from their academics. There are times when
they are drained and need time to relax, and their cellphone would be a great source of comfort and
entertainment for them.

In conclusion, using cellphones should be allowed at school because it serves as a great source of
information and entertainment for students. Cellphones also provide emotional support in emergencies
and provide comfort for stressed students. With this in mind, banning the use of cellphones in school is
like taking away the freedom and the room for improvement of the students.
