c. Evaluate the information contained in the material viewed in the terms of accuracy and
effectiveness.

We have talked about critiquing and
analyzing a story ma’am which includes the
formalism and formalist approach.
Now, what have you learned about it?
Formalism approach ma’am it discovers the
true meaning of a work by giving attention to
the form or structure, elements and literary
devices operating in it. However Formalist
Approach it studies how the elements work
together to form unity and to give meaning to
a text.

Two Major Forms of Literature
1. Poetry- this literary type is usually written in
lines and is characterize by having the element
of rhythm, sound, imagery, and form.
a. Narrative Poetry - this poetry tells a story
and has elements of a narrative such as
characters, setting, conflict, etc.
b. Dramatic Poetry - this is an emotionally
appealing drama written in verse that tells a
story and is intended to be recited or sung in
front of the audience by a character speaking
in poetry.
c. Lyric Poetry - it is the most common type of
poetry that focuses on expressing feelings
rather than telling the story.
2. Prose - this literary piece applies a natural
flow od speech and grammatical logically and
sequentially in a paragraph form.
a. Fiction- this serves as a product of the
writer’s wild imagination and creative thinking
where the characters react to the conflict and
various issues central to the main idea of a
literary work.
b. Non-fiction- these are stories inspired by
real events where the writers aim to present,
interpret, or describe experiences based on
facts.

G. Application

Let’s have another activity!

all you have to do is to choose a literary genre
and give your own understanding using a
concept map.
I will give you 5 mins to finish your output and
1-2 mins for your presentation.
