Chapter 1
The problem and its scope

This chapter one is the study about papers. This includes the Rationale, where we will
know what the study is all about. The statement of the problem, where the problem addressed by
a study. The significance of the study, where the researchers will know the importance and the
contributions to an impact of the study on a research field. Lastly the scope and limitations,
where the researchers will explore the importance of setting limits and focusing the researcher’s
study through an in-depth analysis of scope and delimitations.

Rationale
Papers is a valuable material that can be reused and manufactured into new items.
Recycling paper involves turning waste paper, wrapping paper, packaging, greeting cards,
cardboard boxes, paper bags and more. Paper is one of the major things people make use of
everyday. According to Harald Grossman, Toni Handke, Tobias Brenner” During the last few
decades, recovered paper and board has become the principal raw material of the paper industry,
and 57% of all produced worldwide today is based on recovered paper”. Even in many industries
such business, government and education, paper is essential. Likewise, paper being used in many
ways, including writing notes and etc.

More importantly, it is used by many students every day. According to Yrjo Virtanen,
Sten Nilsson Routledge(2013). “Public concern for the conservation of natural resources and a
general awareness of the environmental consequences of waste disposal is reflected in current
legislations aimed to reducing waste.” These Means that as many people continues to use paper,
there are also tendencies that many of these papers are wasted after being used. And so, this
study will focused on how can we possibly recycle used paper or scratch papers into giving them
new life. According to Yrjo Virtanen, Sten Nilsson Routledge (2013). “ the results of the study
underline the economic and environmental advantages of papers recycling, but more
controversially, they also show how, under certain conditions, the renewable character and the
high energy content of paper seem to make energy recovery more attractive than recycling.” The
researches will recycling paper to turn it into new paper items. This will prevent waste and also
conserves resources and energy used remaking papers from scratch. By reusing papers, prolong
the lifecycle of the materials and reduce the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process.
Statement of the Problem

Generally, this investigatory project aims to find out if scratch papers can be recycled
into new paper. Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions:

1. Can recycling scratch paper be good for us?

2. How can students and workers in the community can get benefit from renewable paper?
3. What are the tools and/or materials needed in upcycling used papers to new and reusable
ones?

Significance of the study

This research will benefit the people, students and workers by producing papers. The
main benefit of the recycling is a double decrease of the environment, known as environmental
papers nowadays come quite expensive prices, but since the materials to be used in the
researcher’s project are common and easy to find, people will be spending less money. By the
researcher’s idea recycling paper is a great way to save our environment from the problems of
global warming and carbon pollution. Also, no harm chemicals will be used in making product.
Therefor, recycling paper and many other environmental problems associated with waste.

Scope and limitation

The focused of this study is to recycle unused papers or scratch papers, making it into
new paper. The researchers research and experiment are only limited on making a simple paper.
By doing that the researchers will be using: scratch papers, clothes, woods, water, and basin.
Therefore, the researcher’s experiments thus not include any used of machines etc.
