Title of Research Project: An analysis of politeness strategies used in The Blind Side movie.

1. Problem statement (briefly) People need to be aware of others' faces in

social interactions in order to consider their
sentiments or sustain a relationship. People are
required to adopt politeness strategies in order
to save their face.
2. Research objectives 1. To describe the types of politeness strategies
employed by the characters in the movie
entitled “The Blind Side”.

2. To explain the factors influencing the

characters to employ those strategies.

1. Replay the movie several times to
understand the whole story
2. Finding transcript of the movie
3. Compare the transcript to the movie
dialogues
4. Underline/ highlight the dialogues
containing politeness strategies as data
5. Analyze and identify the types of politeness
strategies used

The data collected will be analyzed using
Pragmatic approach
1. Classify the data(dialogue) into four types
of politeness strategies (positive politeness,
negative politeness, bald on-record, off-record)
2. Describe the distribution of use of each
politeness strategies in the movie.
3.Analysing and interpreting the data based
on Bron and Levinson’s politeness strategies
4. Draw a conclusion from the data analysis
and give suggestions.
