Skyward Expedition : Rule Book

Rules
● All participants must register on the event website and form teams. The
maximum number of participants per team is 2.
● After registering individually on Corpus, the participants must create their
respective teams on the website and all further participation would happen
via the combined team. (Note: Carefully note down the password for your
Corpus account for future log in purposes. Password reset cannot be done
easily.)
● All participants must be B.Tech. undergraduates from a recognised
university. Students may form teams that combine participants from different
colleges.
● The participants would be required to create a design for a deployment
platform capable of remotely delivering multiple payloads that would fit
onto the underside of the 3D CAD model of the UAV provided.
● The cumulative weight of the deployment platform including its
attachments, power supply, microcontroller etc. must not exceed 3
kilograms.
● The platform must be capable of launching the payload wirelessly from a
height while flying.
● The platform must be capable of carrying loads of a minimum of 1 kilogram
with a factor of safety of 1.5.
● The participants must design their own individual payload. The minimum
payload dimensions are 21*16*25 cm and the payload must be solid.
● The mechanism used to attach the platform must not make use of any
permanent adhesives to attach the mechanism to the UAV. The use of screws
or rivets is also prohibited. Points would be awarded more favourably to

designs which allow for easy and secure fastening of the mechanism whilst
using minimal fasteners.
● All designs must be created using legally licensed CAD software and must
be submitted in the .step format.
● Teams are also required to attach any necessary analysis, e.g. structural,
CFD of the design to validate the performance under different conditions
and the necessary validation of the analysis.
● All designs must be accompanied by an explanatory document explaining
the assembly instructions, working of the mechanisms, design philosophy
and the manufacturing process intended to be used to prototype the design.
○ The design philosophy (The thought process before arriving at the
final design of the platform)
○ The list of electronics used
○ The working of all the mechanisms and algorithms used to actuate the
platform
○ The manufacturing processes to be used to manufacture the platform
○ The process of fastening the platform onto the UAV
● All files to be submitted must be zipped and submitted to the website as a
single entry per team.
● Points would be awarded based on the following criteria
○ Overall aerodynamicity
○ Overall weight and robustness
○ Lift carrying capacity
○ Universality of design onto other UAV platforms
○ Ease of manufacturing
● Additional points would be awarded based on innovative design and unique
solutions that the participants come up with to actuate and design the
platform.
● Participants are allowed to modify the landing gear of the UAV model
provided to them but must include an explanation of how their modified

model would be able to land safely on the ground. They are NOT allowed
to modify the main body and arms of the UAV for any reason
whatsoever.

The UAV design can be accessed using this link.

The parameters to be used while performing the CFD study will be updated shortly.
