ACOUSTICAL CORRECTION OF AN APARTMENT

(PLATE NO. 1 – MINOR PLATE)

APARTMENT LAYOUT PROBLEM: Mr. Juan De la Cruz is a businessman who purchased a

spacious two-bedroom luxury apartment in Manila. The 288 square meter ground floor
apartment is perfect for him since it is near his office building. However, after spending a week
in his new apartment, he starts to notice that the acoustics of the whole place are not as good as
the real estate agent presented before he purchased the unit. He is disturbed by the vibrations and
the airborne noise transmitted by his neighbors living in the adjacent units; one happens to be a
band member, and the other a college sorority that loves to party every other night. He has grown
tired of the annoyance caused by his neighbors, so he has commissioned you, an architect, to
help him solve his problem. From your acoustical point of view, how might this apartment be
improved?
INSTRUCTIONS: You can rearrange all the spaces except the windows, the elevator and
garbage chute. You can change the texture and the material used in the rendered floorplan.

NOTE: ON THE FLOORPLAN PROVIDED, please be noted that the dimensions provided is
in inside-to-inside format. Inner walls measure 0.15 mts. and the outside walls are 0.20 mts.

PLATE REQUIREMENTS:
1. NEW FLOORPLAN WITH PROPER DIMENSIONS AND LABELS EXPLAINING
THE CHANGES YOU DID TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. MUST BE BRIEF, CONCISED
AND PROPERLY LABELED AND EXPLAINED. (DIGITAL, CADD)
2. ANY RENDERING SOFTWARE is allowed.
3. RENDERED INTERIORS OF ALL THE IMPORTANT SPACES.
4. TOP VIEW OF THE RENDERED 3D JUST LIKE THE ATTACHED IMAGE BELOW.
