Title : WHY YOU SHOULD LEARN AN INSTRUMENT
General Purpose : To Inform
Central Idea : Learn an instrument remains one of the most useful to know yourself better

INTRODUCTION
I. Attention getter- Learning to play a musical instrument has been linked to improved
spatial-temporal skills. Spatial-temporal skills involve understanding how different
elements fit together in space and time. Musicians often excel in tasks that require these
skills, such as solving puzzles, visualizing complex structures, and even mathematical
reasoning.

II. Reason to listen- This improvement is believed to result from the need to read and
interpret sheet music, which involves understanding how musical notes relate to each
other in terms of time and pitch, as well as how to translate that into physical movements
on the instrument. So, when you learn to play an instrument, you're not only creating
beautiful music but also enhancing your spatial reasoning abilities.

III. Credibility Statement- I enjoy playing musical instruments that uplift me and help me to
unwind. Our blood pressure and heart rate are reduced by music, which has a very special
effect on them. This makes us feel more at ease and joyful.

IV. Central idea (thesis)- Learn an instrument remains one of the most useful to know yourself
better

BODY

I. Firstly, the reasons why you should learn an instruments is can relief stress.
A. Playing an instrument can be a therapeutic way to reduce stress and anxiety. It
provides an opportunity to escape from daily worries and focus on something
enjoyable and absorbing.
1. For example, when playing an instrument demands concentration and focus.
When you're deeply engaged in playing music, it can take your mind off
stressors and worries, promoting a state of mindfulness.
B. To overcome the stress, we can play an instrument with slow melodies and
rhythm.
1. Slow music has a calming effect on the mind and body. The gentle and
predictable rhythm can help lower heart rate and reduce the production of
stress hormones.
2. Other than that, slow melodies can induce a meditative state, helping you
achieve a sense of inner peace and mindfulness. This can be especially
helpful in managing stress and anxiety.

II. Secondly, the reasons why you should learn an instrument is you can build a new
community and do a collaboration
C. As a professional musician, you can join a band orchestra, or ensemble provides
opportunities for social interaction and collaboration, fostering a sense of community.
1. This can improve your skills and boost confident when as a team to
communicate and have a good chemistry will produce a good song and
melody.
a. When you learn an instrument, you can learn more than one instrument
for example guitar. Guitar has same chromatic and can reach every note
on the chromatic scale with piano. If you learn guitar, you can learn faster
piano with knowing the scale and melody.
b. The chart provides people learn their first instrument. The most people
learn an instrument is piano with average 40% and follow by guitar 25%.
Flute instrument is the less people to learn compare to trumpet and drum
which is same 12.5%

2. Joining a band also can make a new friend with different background and
culture. It also can gain a knowledge of your understanding in music industry.
a. Learning an instrument often involves gaining knowledge of music theory,
deepening your appreciation for different genres and styles of music.

CONCLUSION

I. In conclusion, learning an instrument is a lifelong journey that offers continuous


opportunities for growth and self-improvement, keeping your mind engaged and active
throughout your life.

A. As you explore new pieces, techniques, and musical genres, you'll sharpen your
cognitive abilities, from memory and problem-solving to concentration and discipline.
Music, with its emotional resonance, provides an outlet for creative expression and
an avenue for processing and releasing stress. It's a constant source of fascination,
always offering something new to learn and master.
Moreover, the appreciation of music theory and cultural traditions provides a broader
understanding of the world. Whether pursued as a hobby or a potential career path,
