Dear Simba
Did you know that the first Saturday of December is the National Tree Planting Day? I would like to tell you
about the activities that took place at our school last year on that particular day.
The villagers, school children and invited guests gathered at our school on that day. The guest of honour was the
Minister of Tourism. All preparations had been done in advance. The senior classes had planted over a hundred
seedlings of different indigenous and exotic trees. The holes for planting had already been in advance.
The guest of honour first gave a speech on the importance of trees and maintaining the environment. I learnt that
trees help to control global warming. After the speech, some pupils sang songs and recited poems. Afterwards,
the Headmaster led the people to the area where the trees were to be planted. The Minister planted the first tree,
followed by people chosen from the community and school.
Later in the day, the councilor gave a vote of thanks and then food was served.
Yours
Noah

What a lucky day it was for Bingo, for he got a treat. As he was passing by the butcher’s shop, Mr. Taruona, who
was fond of Bingo, saw him, Mr. Taruona reached for a big juicy bone and threw it out through the open back
door. Bingo caught the juicy bone between his jaws and trotted off in search of a quiet place to enjoy the
treasured gift.
Just as Bingo was taking his first bite, Rex appeared. Seeing the bone Bingo had, Rex growled fiercely, for he
wanted it for himself. Bingo did not want to part with his treasured bone so he sprang up and attacked Rex
furiously. A fierce fight started.
The growling and snarling of the fighting dogs drew Spike to the scene. As she approached stealthily, she was
quick to notice the cause of the fight, the juicy bone. She quickly picked up and disappeared just before the two
fighters stopped to have some breathing space. Their eyes opened wide in astonishment, for the bone had
vanished.

An old woman who kept geese went to the shop one day to buy some beef and cheese for her lunch. When she
got home she found that one goose had laid a very special egg.
She said to herself, “I shall kill that goose, there will be lots more eggs inside her.” She looked round for a good
tool. She saw a knife on the bench, but the blade was too blunt. Then she saw a hammer on the bench. She tied
the goose’s legs up with a piece of wire and hit it on the head with the hammer.
There were no eggs inside and the goose that laid the golden eggs was dead.
