Seasonal agriculture laborers are people who migrate from season to season for economic

activities in agriculture. They generally tend to move to warmer climates in summer to pick
seasonal fruits and relocate when weather conditions change. They do not establish a home
and generally inhabit temporary sources of housing. While seeming like a bad source of
income, advantages of being a seasonal agricultural laborer outweigh the disadvantages.
One main advantage of being a seasonal agricultural worker is economic gain. Fruits have
various picking seasons and obtaining those fruits in the right season means high revenue for
the workers. A fruit might seem a useless daily commodity, but if the laborer collects enough
fruits, it will generate income that can sustain the whole family for a year.
Another advantage regarding seasonal labor is cultural exchange. Seasonal laborers travel
distances, the length of which differs from one culture to another. So, seasonal laborers
carry their culture and exchange information with locals. This is of great importance if we
consider the fact that human civilization has evolved by harmonizing itself and learning from
other cultures. Therefore, a seasonal worker can help with the foundation of a brand new
harmonized culture.
But, being a seasonal laborer also brings about some drawbacks. Because laborers move
with their children, children can lack the opportunity to receive quality education. In
addition to that, there may be tension between the locals and the laborers because of
differences in race, language, and culture. And most importantly, being a seasonal laborer is
tough, since many of the seasonal workers suffer from inhumane working conditions.
Seasonal agricultural labor is a need that has arisen with the increase in human population.
There are several advantages and disadvantages to being a seasonal agricultural laborer and
people should consider these drawbacks if they want to become a seasonal laborer. As far as
economic gains are concerned, advantages of being a seasonal worker outweigh the
disadvantages. And with enough government support and education, disadvantages that are
connected to culture divide can be eradicated, thus, making seasonal jobs more
advantageous.
