Figures of speech

● Simile: A comparison between two things using "like" or "as."


Example: The clouds were like fluffy cotton candy in the sky.

● Metaphor: A comparison between two things without using "like" or "as."


Example: Life is a journey with many ups and downs.

● Personification: Giving human qualities to nonhuman things.


Example: The trees danced in the wind.

● Hyperbole: Exaggeration for emphasis or effect.


Example: I'm so hungry I could eat a horse!

● Onomatopoeia: A word that sounds like what it describes.


Example: The car screeched to a halt.

● Alliteration: Repetition of the initial sound of words in a phrase or sentence.


Example: Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.

● Assonance: Repetition of vowel sounds in a phrase or sentence.


Example: The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain.

● Irony: The use of words to convey a meaning that is opposite of its literal meaning.
Example: A fire station burns down.

"The wind howled through the night, a mournful cry that pierced through the silence. The moon
was a glowing lantern, illuminating the darkness with its soft light. Leaves rustled like whispers
