Week 9 (Sept21) Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

Unit 1 Topic 3
Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

In this activity, you will:

 rewrite log form into exponential form, and vice versa;

 solve logarithmic equations; and
 solve problems involving logarithm.

Instructions:
 Answer the required items. You may have the option to answer optional items for additional
practice.
 Write your answers in this document or in your notebook.
 Submit your answers on or before the scheduled deadline. Processing of this activity will be
done in our next TF session.
 Sample answered items are provided on the last page.
 For more practice exercises involving Logarithmic word problems, you may refer to your
book on pages 115 to 120.

I. Rewrite the following in logarithmic II. Rewrite the following in exponential

form. form.

1. 35=243
1. log 3 ( 19 )=−2
2. ( a−1 )2=1.6 2. log 2 ( 2 x+1 ) =3

3. e x−√ 2=8 3. log x=2−e

Week 9 (Sept21) Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

IV. Solve the following problem.

1. The atmospheric pressure p on an object decreases with increasing height. This pressure,
measured in millimeters of mercury, is related to the height h (in kilometers) above sea
level by the function
−0.145 h
p=760 e

(a) Find the height of an aircraft if the atmospheric pressure exerted on it is 320
millimeters of mercury.

(b) At the top of the mountain, the air seems thin. If at the peak of mountain A the
atmospheric pressure is 667 millimeters of mercury, how tall is it?

(c) Based on this formula, what is the atmospheric pressure at sea level?

(d) At what height will there only be half the pressure as the pressure at sea level?
