The foul smell from the drainage is considered to be a serious issue in Thuvariman, where people
continuously throw their waste on these open drains . This waste will remain there and cause the
open drain to be clogged. presence of waste in the drainage will block the movement of
wastewater, If it rains, rain water fills, and it causes overflow. As compared to closed drains,
they do not take up much surface space, but when it comes to open drains, the risk of children
playing and falling into polluted water is high.

drain as it will result in foul smell

● People whose area has open drainage must be closed temporarily

with cement slabs to avoid falling of children in it

● People must maintain the open-drain by removing wastes to the

continuous flow of water.

● If there is plastics observed in the open drains, should be removed

immediately to avoid clogging

● Regular cleaning of drainage must be done, to avoid housing sites

of mosquitoes.

● People should follow the instructions as provided about the

disposal of wastes

● People should use dustbins instead of tapering the wastes into the

river, open drain or in the empty land.

● People should be aware of diseases which will be caused by the

mosquitos

● People should keep their livestock as some millimeters away

which has a clogged drainage system to avoid such diseases caused

by breeding ground of mosquito.

● People should consider that this open-drain problems as important

to be rectified

● Instead of implicating pipelines for drainage system , self –

draining system can be applied

● Closed drain is preferred mostly as it reduces soil erosion and

removes those toxic materials
