Today, you are going to learn how to identify things that are real/fact and make believe/non-fact.
Then, we are going to use some of the secondary sources in organizing information for writing,
reporting and similar academic tasks.

2. Presentation

Questions:
Where did the story happen?
Who are the characters in the story?
What size of the bowl of porridge did Goldilocks eat?
What happen to the smallest chair in the lounge room?
What was baby bear’s feeling when he saw what had happened to his porridge, chair and
bed?
What happened when Goldilocks saw the three bears?
What polite expression did she forget to tell them after the incident?
Did you think the story really happen? Why not?

3. Discussions

Recall some events in the story that can happen in real or fact.
Tell some happening in the story that are just make - believe or non-fact.
What are real/fact images? Make-believe/non-fact images?

Organize the information below on how an island is about to be born. Notice the transition/signal
words in sentences, then let’s write it in paragraph form.

- Again the floor shakes.


- The ocean floor shakes lightly at first.
- Then the sand moves and settles back down.
- Finally, a crack appears in the ocean floor.
- Next, hot melted rock called lava flows through the crack.
- After the sea floor cracks, tons of lava from inside the earth pile up.
- At last, the tip of the mountain breaks through the water.
- An island has finally been born.

II. Read the following selection about the purposes in using anaesthetics. From what you have read,
organize the information and write it in a form of report.

A. There are many ways to lessen pain.


B. Anaesthetics serve other purposes like reducing or eliminating reflex activity or relaxing muscles.
C. Anaesthetics are chemical substances which ause a lot of feeling.
D. Therefore, surgical operations can be performed effectively.
E. In surgery, anaesthetics are used to eliminate the pain accompanying operation.

Organize the information below about “A Day with Grandmother.” Notice the transition/signal
words in sentences and then write it in paragraph form.

A. My grandmother and I spent the entire afternoon chatting, singing, eating and playing. She sang
well while I played the guitar.
B. We enjoyed an hour of strolling under the shade of the trees. Birds of different species and flowers
of different varieties provided us entertainment.
C. I had two chocolate pan cakes with warm milk and ripe mangoes for breakfast.
D. Finally, we reached the stream. The cool and fresh air and the beautiful scenery vanished the
tiredness we felt from an hour of walking.
E. At exactly five in the afternoon, we decided to pack up and head back to her cottage where my
parents were waiting for me.
F. Grandmother prepared a basket of egg sandwich, broiled sweet potatoes, boiled eggs, ripe
bananas and some green salad.

E. Closure
Real or Fact images truly exist and we can see, hear, feel, taste or touch them while
Make – believe or Non - fact is when something cannot happen in real life because it doesn’t
actually exist.
While organizing information from secondary sources in preparation for writing, reporting and
similar academic tasks in collaboration with others includes the following :
1. an account of events in the order in which they happened.
2. a reference to what people have said
3. a brief description of people involved in the story
4. past-tense verbs, because they refer to events that have already taken place
IV. Evaluation
A. Write the name of the images that is/are REAL/FACT or MAKE-BELIEVE/NON-FACT.

B. The following is one of the ancient myths about the origin of the Philippine archipelago.
Create it accordingly to organize the information in logical sequence and write it in a
paragraph form.
A. The Bird told the Sky that the Sea wanted to drown him with his mighty waves. Then the
bird told the Sea that the Sky wanted to hit him with stones.
B. The Bird grew tired of flying since he didn’t have any place to rest, so he started an
argument between those two best of friends, the Sky and the Sea.
C. The Sea reacted by throwing waves of water towards the Sky. The Sky moved even
higher, but when he saw the Sea’s waves rising some more, he then threw soil towards
the sea.
D. The universe was once made up of the Sky (on top), the Sea (at the bottom), and a
large Bird which flew constantly between the first two.
E. The soil quieted the Sea and also made the Sky lighter. The soil turned into 7,000 islands
and that is how the Philippines came to be.
V. Assignment
A. In your notebook, draw 5 real/fact images and then their corresponding make-believe/non-
fact images.
