MUSCLE GROUP

What are muscles?

A muscles are pieces of soft tissue throughout your body. They help you do everything from
holding your body still to running a marathon. Muscles also move and support your organs.
Your heart is a hard-working muscle that beats thousands of times a day to keep you
alive.Your muscles use a combination of voluntary and involuntary movements to work with
nearly all your body’s systems and functions. Different kinds of muscles help with, vision,
hearing, breathing, speaking, and swallowing. Digesting food and getting rid of waste (peeing
and popping). Moving, sitting still and standing up straight, pumping blood through your
heart and blood vessels, and giving birth. Muscles also store and release energy your body
uses as part of your metabolism.

13 MAJOR MUSCLE GROUPS IN THE BODY

1. DELTS/SHOULDER MUSCLE - Deltoids, or delts, which are the shoulder muscles. The
delts are used in all side body lifting motions, they provide support when you carry
things and help keep carried items away from the motion path of the thighs.
2. BICEPS - Are located in the front of the upper arm. The biceps helps control the
motion of both the shoulder and elbow joints. At the elbow, the biceps are essential
in lifting, and at the shoulder they help with moving the arm sideways, forward and
upwards. The biceps are also involved in forearm rotation such as when you used a
screw driver.
3. TRICEPS - Are in the back of the upper arm. The triceps helps stabilize the shoulder
joint l, and also allow the elbow joint to be straightened. The triceps are involved in
passing and shooting a basketball l, and help with finite movements such as when
you write or draw.
4. PECTORALS OR PECS - are the large chest muscles, pecs are involved in many
everyday movements, mainly at rhe shoulder joint. They probide support when you
hold objects in front of your body and they are activated when you reach across
your body for instance to grab a seatbelt or comb your hair in the opposite side.
They are also activated when you reach behind yourself, for instance reaching into
your backpants pocket, or to tuck in your shir.
5. ABDOMINALS - The abdominals assist in the breathing process and protect inner
organs. They are also key in twisting motions, such as golf swing or looking behind
yourself. They also play a key in bending over motions, and in maintaining good
posture.
6. OBLIQUES - The obliques like the abdominals are important in twisting motions and
bending motions, as they help support the spine from the front. They are also key in
keeping good posture.
7. TRAPS - The traps are use to tilt and turn the head and neck and shrug the
shoulders. They also provide support when you lift items over your head.
8. LATS - The large muscles below the traps are the lats. The lats are used when you
pull something into your body, or for instance when you take something down from
a shell above your head, and they are heavily involved in many swimming
movement.
9. CRECTOR SPINAE - Help to extend the spine and are key in posture. They are also
important when bending forward, and sideways.
10. GLUTES - Glutes are your butt muscles, the glutes are key muscles in the
movements of your legs backwards and sideways. And they also help you maintain
balance as you walk or run.
11. HAMSTRINGS - Are in the upper back part of your legs, and the harmstrings main
function is to bend your knees and help propel your body forward in such activities
as walking, running, and jumping.
12. CALVES - Located in the lower back part of your legs, they are key muscles when
you left your heels up, such as when you walk, run, and go up stairs. They are also
important for exclusive moves such as sprinting or jumping.
13. QUADS - Located in the upper front part of the leg. The quads help the legs
straighten, so they are the key muscle used when you go sitting to standing they're
also involved walking, jumping, squating and running. They help stabilize the knee
joint during the movements, and they are also key muscle used during hip rotation.
