object
Grade level Grade IV
Time allotment 60 mins.
Teacher Keren Hiedezel Roxas

Learning objectives:
At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
a. describe what happens to an object shape when force is applied;
b. understand the changes happens to an object when force is applied and;
c. explain the effects of force on the shape of an object.

Materials, and assessment tool

Preliminary Activities (5mins.)
1. Prayer
Ø The teacher will designate a pupil to lead the opening prayer.

2. Checking of Attendance
Ø The teacher will send a link for the attendance.
Ø The pupils will access the link and login for their attendance.

3. Checking of Assignment
Ø The teacher tells the pupils that she already checked their
assignments.

4. Review
Ø The teacher will ask the pupils if they remember the lesson
discussed yesterday. Then, the teacher will ask several
questions about the lesson to check the pupils’ understanding.

ELICIT (Access prior knowledge) (5mins.)

The teacher will access prior knowledge of the pupils by playing the
game. In this game, the pupils will be asked whether the following
statement is true or false.

Write True if the statement is correct and False if not.

_________1. Force is a push or pull. PowerPoint Presentation

_________2. Force can make an object move.
_________3. Gravity can make an object changed its shape.
_________4. Force can change the direction of a moving object.
_________5. Force can make a moving object stop.

Answer key:

ENGAGE (Get the students’ minds focused on the topic.) (10mins.)

The teacher will engage the pupils through an activity called what
letter comes next. In this activity, the pupils will try to figure out what
word is being described.

1. E N Q B D - is a push or pull, which occurs when two or more

objects interact with each other. PowerPoint presentation

2. The R G Z O D of an object may change when force applied
to it.
3. O T R G – is the applying of force to move something closer.

EXPLAIN (Teach the concept. Should include interaction between (12mins.)

teacher and pupils)

Force has always been a part of our daily lives. It cannot be seen by
our eyes, but we can feel the effect of force on our bodies. Whether we PowerPoint presentation
are doing household activities, working in the field, or even playing,
we can see the effects of forces in action.

Look at the picture above. Can you

tell me what they are doing? (Questioning)

Do you think a force was applied in

each activity?

• A Force is a push or pull, which occurs when two or more

objects interacts with each other.
• It causes an object to move.
• It can be due to magnetism, gravity or anything that might
cause an object to move.

Push – a force applied in a direction

away from our body.
Pull – a force applied in a direction
towards our body.

Motion – is an action of
changing location or position.

According to his 1st law of motion an

object at rest will remain at rest unless
acted upon by an external force.

Example: Chair
A chair will not move unless
someone will push or pull it.

The size and shape of an object can change when force is applied on
it. These are: Pushing, pulling, pounding, compressing, bending,
twisting, tearing, stretching, or squeezing are some ways of changing
the size and shape of an object.

Examples of ways of changing the shape of an object

THE EFFECTS OF FORCES

Ø Force can move a stationary object. (Toy car)
Ø Force can change the speed of a moving object. (Ball)
Ø Force can stop a moving object. (Bicycle)
Ø Force can change direction of a moving object. Football)
Ø Force can change the shape of an object.

“Objects with lesser mass require lesser force for it to move to some
distance while objects with greater mass require greater or stronger
force to make it move to a longer distance.”
ELABORATE (Students apply the information learned in the Explain (10mins.)
through doing more activities)
PowerPoint presentation
The teacher will conduct an activity to enhance the students
understanding of the lesson.

May the Force Be with you
