INTRODUCTION
In the ever-evolving landscape of education, ensuring the curriculum aligns with the
developmental stages of learners is paramount. Moreover, one of the crucial aspects for this
adaptation is the guarantying to meet the changing needs of the students, particularly in the
domains of Physical Education and Health. These subjects play a pivotal role in shaping the
student’s physical, mental, social, spiritual and emotional well-being, making it imperative to
examine their alignment with various age group.
Amidst the endeavors to create a comprehensive curriculum by experts, one of the
many challenges that educational systems encounters is implementing their lesson discussion
in the field whether the learning competencies, objectives and the goals outlined in the
Curriculum aligned with the abilities, skills and strengths of the learners. At some point,
educators find it also very difficult to accomplish the said competency as the allotted time for
the subject is not only their main enemy likewise the activities that they should employ in
aiming the learning objectives for a specific topic.
In this analysis report, I will be delving into the complexities of the K-12 Physical
Education and Health Curriculum Framework in Grade levels 9 and 10, contributing to why
is it inappropriate, revise, cite activities and outline some supporting theories and research
studies to prove the claim.

INAPPROPRIATE LEARNING COMPETENCY


Chosen Learning Competency in Physical Education : “Undertakes Physical Activity and
Physical Fitness Assessments”
Chosen Learning Competency in Health:
This competency was repeated multiple times in the curriculum mainly in Lifestyle
and Weight Management, Sports Officiating and Social and Ballroom Dances. This
competency involves evaluating the student’s individual fitness levels through various test
and assessment. For adolescents in the age group of 15-17 years old, this could add up stress
and pressure due to several reasons. First and foremost, this competency could lead to
comparison and competition if some students perceive their peers as more physically fit.
During this developmental stage, teenagers often place significant emphasis on social
acceptance and may feel compelled to perform well in fitness assessments to gain approval or
avoid judgement from their teachers likewise their peers. Additionally, at this stage also
marks their consciousness on physical appearance as they are now indulging in the world of
adults. This could lead to heightened sensitivity about body image concerns that focuses on
metrics including weight, body fat percentage, or physical abilities. Lastly, this could result in
external expectations for the teenagers. During adolescence, teenagers often rely heavily on
external feedback from their parents and the societal norms to shape their self-worth and
identity. If the students encounter such requirements, he/she may feel pressure and stress to
meet these standards to gain approval and validation from others.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM


This analysis report will bring a vital understanding on the age-appropriateness of the
learning competency in Grade levels 9 and 10 and will seek to answer the following
questions:
1. Why is your chosen learning competency not age-appropriate for the learners’
developmental stage?
2. What are the best activities and lesson suited for the learning competency to make it
appropriate?
3. How is this important to revise the learning competency in connection with Physical
Education and Health curriculum?
