60-Minute Lesson Plan: Agreeing and Disagreeing - Pre-Intermediate Level

Objective:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use appropriate language and
expressions to agree and disagree in English in a variety of situations.

Materials:

Whiteboard or blackboard
Markers or chalk
Handout with examples of agree and disagree expressions
Flashcards with sentences for practice
A list of topics for discussion
Warm-Up (5 minutes):

Greet the students and get their attention.


Review previously learned vocabulary and expressions related to agreement and
disagreement.
Play a quick warm-up game to activate their prior knowledge. For example, "Agree or
Disagree?" - Make statements and have students move to one side of the classroom if
they agree and the other side if they disagree. Encourage students to use
appropriate language and expressions while playing the game.
Presentation (10 minutes):

Introduce the topic of agreeing and disagreeing in English.


Write examples of agree and disagree expressions on the board and elicit responses
from students.
Provide explanations and clarifications as needed.
Distribute a handout with additional examples of agree and disagree expressions for
students to refer to during the lesson.
Practice (20 minutes):

Use flashcards with sentences that express agreement or disagreement. Show a


flashcard and have students practice responding with the appropriate expressions.
Divide the class into pairs or small groups.
Provide a list of topics for discussion, such as "school rules," "hobbies," "food
preferences," etc.
Have students practice using agree and disagree expressions in conversations with
their partners or group members, using the topics provided.
Monitor the students' conversations and provide feedback on their language use.
Production (15 minutes):

Bring the class back together as a whole group.


Conduct a class discussion on a controversial topic, such as "uniforms in school,"
"animal testing," or "technology in classrooms."
Encourage students to express their opinions using agree and disagree expressions.
Facilitate a respectful and inclusive discussion, allowing students to practice
using the target language in a meaningful context.
Summarize the main points of the discussion and provide feedback on language use.
Wrap-Up (5 minutes):

Review key expressions and language used during the lesson.


Provide feedback on students' overall performance and progress.
Assign homework, such as writing a short paragraph expressing their opinions on a
given topic using agree and disagree expressions.
Thank the students for their participation and effort.
Note: Adjust the timing and activities based on the specific needs and dynamics of
