The delicate characteristics of hair and its activities are attributed to chemical

reactions. Cuticle, cortex, and medulla are the three components of the hair structure. The

cuticle is the hair's outermost covering and is composed of layers of keratinized cells that

are layered on top of one another to produce scales. The cortex, or middle layer of hair, is

where melanin is visible. Melanin gives your hair its two distinct colors: pheomelanin,

which is light in color, and emulanium which is dark in color. The medulla, the lowest

point in the hair, is a non-existent layer. These procedures help get chemicals to bind

from the cortex. This source will be beneficial to my research by providing us with

methods to reactivate harmful chemicals or hair coloring using paraphenylenediamine.

This site also provided me with a wealth of knowledge on the hair and how each person's

hair functions. I may also discover how a client's hair is grown from this source, which

helps us determine which areas are appropriate for and inappropriate for hair coloring.

This source provides me with information about how chemicals can impact hair growth.

This source gives me a way of understanding hair in many different ways.

In this resource hair dye ingredients, It indicates exposure to hair dye in the

process of hair coloring. Hair dyes are classified as oxidizing and non-oxidizing based on

chemical composition and ingredients and their color durability is called temporary (8-12

washes), semi-permanent (approx.A total of 24 washes), or permanent (until the hair

grows out). The increasing number of users wanting a hair dye is growing more and more

everyday, but they have pinpointed health concerns and need to evaluate the toxicity and

carcinogenicity related to chemicals in hair dye. Hair dye faces many trauma reactions

when it comes to the skin. It can start to become a health concern when using wrong

chemicals leaving a client with skin disease that can become (ACD). In ACD it is

developed of autoantibodies that can attack the skin at an interphase level. This source

will be beneficial to my research question by letting me understand the way hair dye can

affect a person's health, their skin, and allergies to the chemicals. It shows ways to go

about a clients hair and not further them in health problems along the way. It also gives

me a look on what chemicals I could possibly use to help a client. This source shows

many detailed ways of how to help someone not be affected by chemicals. It also shows

what chemicals are bad for humans and what to go about in those tragic ways.

Sherry Kenzie. Alexis English. 26 October 2023.

In my mentor video I have learned a lot of new ways to become a hairdresser. She

has explained to me that hair dressers are people that can communicate with others.

Learning what the client wants has a huge impact on how they will feel after their

experience. The skills and abilities she explained to me is going through a year of

extensive training to pass your state board. A few examples she gave me was ( skin care,

makeup, nails, and all different hair styles and different hair textures). A hairstylist

usually works a full day, and for me I love to be on my feet and doing something at all

times. It really helps me get through my day faster. She told me to always listen to the

customer but also tell them what they've told you but also give them advice on what

could possibly be better. Always communicating with the client helps both the hairdresser

and client both get the best outcome. Learning new ways to become a hairdresser is

important to me on how to have a perfect haircut and style. Sherri has been very

beneficial to me by telling me her story on life and all the experiences she has had. She

also has been in the workforce for a very long time which shows me she has the

technique I look for when I start to grow into my experience. It also helps with my

research question to always inform my clients on what they ask for and let them know the

side effects from every chemical. She was very helpful with the way she explained all her

details and showed me what it truly means to help people love their hair. It gave me a

way of knowing how to work with clients and get the outcome they were looking for.

The Toxic compounds resource illustrates the potential hazards associated with

specific compounds. Whenever hair is dyed, whether at home or in a salon, conventional

hair dye is applied straight to the scalp and contains toxic chemicals. The permanent

color system contains a system of ammonia, and most solutions contain ethanolamines.

The layers of hair are torn away by ammonia. Ammonia can also aggravate respiratory

conditions including asthma and hormone disruption. Another substance that is used to

bleach hair is hydrogen peroxide. Furthermore, it has been found that more than 25,000

women have learned that hair dye and breast cancer are related. Among these is

p-phenylenediamine, which has been linked to birth abnormalities in females. In addition,

p-phenylenediamine releases several chemicals that are known to cause severe dermatitis,

tearing and irritation of the eyes, asthma, gastritis, renal failure, vertigo, tremors,

convulsions, and coma in people. Considering many chemicals have the ability to

adversely affect important elements of life, you must use caution while coloring a client's

hair. Hazardous chemicals include p-phenylenediamine, ethanolamine, resorcinol, and

others connected to unfavorable health effects are present in some components. There are

In personal hair dye it shows toxicities are increased in semipermanent and

permanent dyes. While both men and women frequently alter their hair color to enhance

their youth and attractiveness and to keep up with fashion trends, there has been a

significant surge in the growth of the personal care and beauty businesses. The elasticity

of the hair shaft is reduced as a result of product damage, making early breakage

possible. It provides some examples of how chemicals can have an impact on a person's

body, such as itching, burning, and blisters. Most of these side effects can cause rapid

ingredients causing cancer among humans, as hairstylists we have to check for harmful

chemicals in ingredients that we put out. These resources help be beneficial by showing

all ingredients can be harmful and we need to check what we buy to be safe and away

from cancer products. It also shows that people may want to change their hair every

which way but we have to know the side effects when doing so. It gives a clear example
