Definitions of office size
Small office, 96 nodes or fewer
You can use the attached Usually up to 75 people
spreadsheet to count the Node type count multiply by total If there is a lab then you may
following nodes wireless access points (from heat map need the medium office setup
generated by Networking team) 5 1 5
• wireless access points (from Employee desks (count as 2) 14 2 28

Track 1 -- IT Room Buildout Requirements -- v1.2.1

Networking is ready to place the circuit order when:
• Full civic address is supplied to us
• Date for readiness of the circuit delivery is solid (see next
slide)
• Delivery of circuit following placement of the order will then
take
• 6 to 8 weeks in the US
• 8 to 12 weeks in other regions
• If the circuit order has been placed and needs to be
rescheduled, expect the following additional lag times:
• 4 to 6 weeks in the US
• 6 to 10 weeks in other regions
Track 1 -- IT Room Buildout Requirements -- v1.2.1
The IT room is ready for circuit delivery when:
• Racks mounted / Grounded / Powered
• Room is physically secure
• Plywood wallboard installed and finished
(painted if desired, but not to obscure APA fire
rating stamp)
• Power is running 24/7/365 (doesn't have
to be UPS)
Track 1 -- IT Room Buildout Requirements -- v1.2.1
The IT room is ready for network turnup when:
• Area is well-lighted and light controlled separately from other areas.
• Cooling running 24/7/365
• Power running 24/7/365
• Room is secure (see “IT Room Security Requirements” slide)
• Clean air / dust free / dry
• Walls finished (sanded, painted) as desired
• Plywood wallboard installed and finished (painted if desired, but not to obscure APA fire
rating stamp)
• Cable trays installed if needed
• Racks mounted / Grounded / Powered
• Cable management installed
• Cabling (Copper / Fiber) terminated at both ends, labeled

Cable color coding standard
It is advisable that we use color coding while we lay cable for different purposes. Below is how we differentiate cabling of others from ours.
1.IT Infra Cabling – BLUE and RED
2.Security Cabling –PURPLE or YELLOW (CCTV, Access Control)
3.Wireless APs -- BLACK

We have set color standards for Faceplate I/O’s, Jack/Patch Panel I/O’s, Rack End and User End Patch Cables and as below.
1.Every Faceplate would have a Blue I/O for Data and a Red I/O for Data Redundant purpose.

2.Similarly patch panels would have all Blue I/O’s and all Red I/O’s for differentiating them from one another.

3.To match faceplate and patch panel color standards, we use Blue and Red Patch cables respectively to connect at both the Rack and User ends.

Unshielded UTP CAT Cable separation standards
Un-shielded UTP CAT Cable separation
standards

While the spec shown lists the recommendations

based on ANSI, TIA, EIA, ISO and IEEE standards,
the rule of thumb in the industry has always been
12” minimum, further apart the better.

For low voltage signal cables [security] 5 – 28 V

DC / AC > 180 ma, again the rule in is a minimum
12” separation due to irregular signal
emissions e.g Maglock low voltage, high current =
high EMI pulse

For both standards, the separation is typically

based on cables running in parallel > 1M.
