LESSON PLAN

Title: Catch-Up Friday Reading Adventure

Objective:
- To provide students with an opportunity to strengthen their reading skills.
- To foster a love for reading through engaging and interactive activities.

Materials Needed:
- Variety of age-appropriate books (fiction, non-fiction, picture books, etc.)
- Whiteboard and markers
- Reading comprehension worksheets
- Art supplies for creative activities related to reading (e.g., crayons, colored pencils, construction paper)
- Timer

Procedure:
1. Welcome and Introduction
- Greet the students warmly and explain the purpose of Catch-Up Friday.
- Emphasize the importance of reading and the enjoyment it can bring.

2. Book Selection
- Allow students to bring out their story book or provide a selection of books for them to choose from.
- Encourage students to select books that interest them and are appropriate for their reading level.

3. Independent Reading
- Set a timer for 20 minutes and instruct students to read silently.
- Circulate around the classroom to provide support and guidance as needed.
- Encourage students to use reading strategies such as sounding out words, using context clues, and asking
questions.

4. Reading Comprehension Activity


- Students can work individually or in pairs to complete the activity, focusing on understanding the main ideas and
details of the text they read.
Ask questions to check their comprehension of the story, such as:
- Who are the main characters?
- What was the problem in the story?
- How was the problem solved?
- What was your favorite part of the story and why?
- Optionally, distribute reading comprehension worksheets related to the books read, or have students create
simple drawings or write short summaries of their chosen book.

5. Creative Expression
- Provide students with art supplies and prompt them to create a visual representation of their favorite part of the
story they read.
- Encourage creativity and imagination while reinforcing comprehension skills.

6. Share and Reflect


- Invite students to share their artwork and discuss their favorite parts of the book with the class.
- Facilitate a brief reflection discussion on what they enjoyed about the book and any new vocabulary or concepts
they learned.

7. Wrap-Up and Homework


- Thank the students for their participation and remind them to continue reading at home.
- Assign optional reading-related homework, such as keeping a reading journal or practicing reading aloud to a
family member.

Extension Ideas:
- Invite a guest reader, such as a parent or community member, to read a story to the class.
- Organize a book swap where students can exchange books they have already read for new ones.
- Integrate technology by using educational reading apps or websites for additional reading practice.
