Anekantavada:
It emphasises that the ultimate truth and reality is complex, and has multiple-aspects i.e “theory
of plurality”.
The doctrine of anekantavada states that all entities have three aspects: substance (dravya),
quality (guna), and mode (paryaya).

we should not impose our views on others, but should try to reconcile with the view‑points of
others.

From 1763 onwards, the Sanyasi Revolt or uprising had engulfed the area of Bengal {including

The British were suspicious of these travelling individuals, referring to them as 'erratic beggars,'
'gipsies of Hindustan,' 'lawless mendicants,"religious vagrants,' and so on.
Following the British acquisition of revenue rights in Bengal, many zamindars faced financial
hardship as a result of the high tax rates.
Many Sanyasi sects travelled from northern India to Bengal to visit various holy sites and shrines.
During their religious travels, the Sanyasis would collect alms and contributions from these
zamindars.
This was ended when the zamindars found it too difficult to distribute charity after paying the
British their dues, as they were left with very little.

Mohenjodaro
Mohenjodaro, is a collection of mounds and ruins on the Indus River's right bank in northern Sindh
province, Pakistan.
The site features the ruins of one of two major Indus civilisation centres (c. 2500–1700BCE), the
other being Harappa, about 400 miles (640 kilometres) to the northwest in Pakistan's Punjab state.
It was one of the most important towns of the Indus Valley Civilization, also known as the
Harappan Civilization, which sprang from the prehistoric Indus civilization circa 3,000 BCE.
In 1922, R.D. Banerjee, explored the Mohenjodaro remains for the first time.
The greatest construction of the Mohenjodaro period has been discovered: a granary. This granary
consists of 27 chambers of various sizes and shapes.
Another important structure at Mohenjodaro is the Assembly Hall, which is a square pillared hall
measuring 90X90 feet. Scholars agree that this pillared hall served as a social meeting place.
One of the most fascinating figures from the Indus Valley Civilization is the sculpture titled
'Mother Goddess'.

Geologically, the alluvium of the Great plain of India is divided into newer or younger khadar
and older bhangar soils.
Bhabar
The bhabar belt is about 8-16 km wide running along the Shiwalik foothills. It is a porous,
northern most stretch of Indo-Gangetic plain.
Rivers descending from the Himalayas deposit their load along the foothills in the form
of alluvial fans. These alluvial fans (often pebbly soils) have merged together to build up the
bhabar belt.
The porosity of bhabar is the most unique feature. The porosity is due to deposition of huge
number of pebbles and rock debris across the alluvial fans.
The streams disappear once they reach the bhabar region because of this porosity. Therefore,
the area is marked by dry river courses except in the rainy season.
The area is not suitable for agriculture and only big trees with large roots thrive in this belt.
Terai
Terai is an ill-drained, damp (marshy) and thickly forested narrow tract (15-30 km wide) to the
south of Bhabar running parallel to it.
The underground streams of the Bhabar belt re-emerge in this belt. It is a swampy lowland with
silty soils.

These soils are generally covered by tall grasses and forests but are suitable for a number of
crops such as wheat, rice, sugarcane, jute, etc.
Bhangar
The Bhangar is the older alluvium along the river beds forming terraces higher than the flood
plain (about 30 meters above the flood level).
A few meters below the terrace of the bhangar are beds of lime nodules known as “Kankar”.
Khadar
The Khadar is composed of newer alluvium and forms the flood plains along the river banks.
The banks are flooded almost every year and a new layer of alluvium is deposited with every
flood. This makes them the most fertile soils of the Ganges.
They are sandy clays and loams, drier and leached, less calcareous and carbonaceous (less
kankary). A new layer of alluvium is deposited by river floods almost every year.

develop a level of self confidence thus bringing them into mainstream of the society. IEDC
is a centrally sponsored scheme which aims to provide Educational Opportunities to the
“not so abled” children.
It has been regarded as one of the major initiatives from the Government of India to
promote “integrated education”. This program was initiated in 1974 by the Ministry of
Welfare, Central Government. Under this program children were to be provided with
financial support for books, stationery, school uniforms, transportation, special equipment
and aids. The state governments were provided with 50 percent of the financial assistance to
implement this program in regular schools. But due to certain limitations and shortcomings
like non-availability of trained and experienced teachers, lack of awareness of the problems
of disabled children and their educational needs, and non-availability of equipment and
educational materials, the program met with little success. Moreover there was a lack of
coordination among the various departments for its proper implementation.
The IEDC program was revised in 1992. In the revised program 100 percent assistance was
available to schools involved in the “integration” of students with disabilities. Various
NGO’s are also now fully funded to implement the program. IEDC is being implemented in
almost all the States and Union Territories.

NABARD alongwith RBI permitted SHGs to have a savings account in banks from the year
of 1993. This action gave a considerable boost to the SHG movement and paved the way
for the SHG-Bank linkage program. (RRBs and Scheduled Commercial Banks support
SHGs)
In 1999, Government of India, introduced Swarn Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY)
to promote self-employment in rural areas through formation and skilling of SHGs.
The programme evolved as a national movement in 2011 and became National Rural
Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) – world’s largest poverty alleviation programme.
It can be defined as self governed, peer controlled information group of people with similar
socio-economic background and having a desire to collectively perform common purpose.
Villages face numerous problems related to poverty, illiteracy, lack of skills, lack of formal
credit etc. These problems cannot be tackled at an individual level and need collective
efforts.
Thus SHG can become a vehicle of change for the poor and marginalized. SHG rely on the
notion of “Self Help” to encourage self-employment and poverty alleviation.
Functions
It looks to build the functional capacity of the poor and the marginalized in the field of
employment and income generating activities.

It resolves conflicts through collective leadership and mutual discussion.
It provides collateral free loan with terms decided by the group at the market driven rates.
Such groups work as a collective guarantee system for members who propose to borrow
from organised sources. The poor collect their savings and save it in banks. In return they
receive easy access to loans with a small rate of interest to start their micro unit enterprise.
Consequently, Self-Help Groups have emerged as the most effective mechanism
for delivery of microfinance services to the poor.

The LPI is an interactive benchmarking tool developed by the World Bank Group.
It helps countries identify the challenges and opportunities they face in their performance of
trade logistics and what they can do to improve their performance.
It measures the ease of establishing reliable supply chain connections and the structural factors
that make it possible. The LPI considers 6 parameters to evaluate logistics performance,
namely:
Customs performance
Infrastructure quality
Timeliness of shipments
The LPI was reported by the World Bank every two years from 2010 to 2018 with a break in
2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a restructuring of the index methodology, eventually
came out in 2023.
LPI 2023 allows for comparison across 139 countries and for the first time, LPI 2023 measures
the speed of trade with indicators derived from big datasets tracking shipments.
