Ana Cecilia Monestel Montoya: The La Paz Waterfall
Gardens are a private ecological reserve in Vara Blanca in
the province of Alajuela, Costa Rica. It's full of interesting
trails for travelers of all ages and is has an amazing array of
wildlife like birds, butterflies, snakes, toucans, and
hummingbirds (you can actually feed and interact with the
toucans!). There is a frog display with a number of colorful
species and, if that wasn't enough, a total of five waterfalls
along the trail. The complex also has a beautiful hotel, a gift
shop, and a restaurant. It's one of my favorite places in Costa
Rica and I'd recommend it 100%.

that many people speak highly of it, and the truth is that we

Ruins of Ujarrás
Luis Enrique: These ruins are about 70 kilometres from
the capital. Located in a rural village, but for its tranquility and
natural attractions, it's a good destination for a weekend away
from the city noise. The church was built in 1693, its facade is
clearly renaissance origin, and its influence derives from the
facades of Santa Maria Novella in 1456, Alberti and Holy
Trinity in 1593 of Bontaleti. The extent and geometry of the
facade can be seen in the three bodies. The first with a door

River. It is one of the few unpolluted rivers which remain,

local public school, which only asks the visitor for a voluntary

A Salto de Mata: Upala Bijagua is in Costa Rica, close to

it had, and San Lucas Island, island where the story "The
Island of men alone" is set. On the tour you visit Turtle Island
, but take your own food and drink since there is no restaurant
on site. Very important is warm weather clothing, swimsuit,
towel, sunscreen, mask and fins, camera. My personal fave
was the small boat because I like to travel or do tours that
aren't crowded and second because people could go under

beautiful artificial lake at the foot of the mountains, I was
disappointed not to be able to see the lava from the volcano
because of the weather. Anyway, I would still recommend
bodear lake, with it's stunning scenery and plenty of wildlife.
Beware of the road though, which is in good condition but
there are frequent landslides. This lake is particularly popular
with fishermen and windsurfers.

Quepos is a distance of 174 kilometers and buses leave the
bus terminal of Coca Cola, in San Jose. The distance and
time can be misleading. In road transport there are 2 types of
services: Direct service in cozy and big buses leaving daily 3
times a day, and lasts 3 and a half hours and the cost of the
ticket is $ 5.00. The other has 5 departures a day, it takes 5
hours and costs U.S. $ 4.00. As Manuel Antonio is one of the
most popular destinations in the country, at weekends and

least 3 days in advance. The bus service between Quepos,

Oscar Retana: This is a beautiful beach in Guanacaste,
Costa Rica, revived by the Municipality of Carrillo. For many
years, construction and trade invaded the area and high tide

and you can sit and watch spectacular sunsets. There are

Cariari Bus Terminal
Héctor www.mibauldeblogs.com: I did all my travelling
around Costa Rica by bus. To get from San Jose to San Jose
Tortuguero you have to take route # 32 → Guápiles; Cariari
route # 247 → → → boat → Pavona Tortuguero. Once in
Cariari you can buy tickets that cover land and water service.
If you want, you can pay for the bus ride Coopetraca and
water transportation. Both services cost the same. You reach
Cariari by 11 or 12, because the journey to Pavona will take
1.5 hours and you take the boat at 13:30. The bus is pretty
full and cramped but it is a fun journey. Its very hot and some
boats will make the journey fun (watch video) This is the best
option to start your trip to Costa Rica because if you rent a
car you can not go to Tortuguero. It is best to do this journey
by bus and then go back to San Jose and rent the car.
Anyway I will advise the bus which is very cheap and very
fun.

also one of the world's fattest reptiles. The leatherback turtle

turtles are the most pelagic of the sea turtles, only females

jellyfish. The reproduction of the leatherback turtle is slow.
Females mate after the age of 10 and only every four years.

Victor Barahona: The Hacienda Baru is another national
wildlife refuges in Costa Rica, but it has a certain shine that

Jose Corrales: unspoilt and unknown to most Costa

about 600 meters. Almost all of the access road is rough. The
bay is protected by headlands at both ends, so it has a
smooth waters, a great benefit to swimmers. A beach ideal for
relaxing in the shade of leafy trees, at the end of the sandy
area. Great for sun, sand, sea, sport fishing, diving, and
camping. In front of the beach, is an island whose shape
creates many different shadows, to spark the imagination of

Braulio Carrillo National Park
Thais Fernández: This photo was taken on the second
day of my trip to Costa Rica. We stopped at Rio Danta
Restaurant, when we went to Tortuguero, a Caribbean Nature
Park that everyone should visit. I could have taken over 200
photos of this most beautiful nature park, the channels full of
trees, monkeys, basilisks, birds, butterflies, alligators, etc. But
I prefer this one, since it was the first thing that surprised me
during the 12 day trip. For me, having had the opportunity to

Nuestra Tierra Restaurant
Zai Aragon: Nuestra Tierra Restaurant is the epitome of
tropical restaurants. With large windows, high ceilings,
wooden interiors and traditional decor, everything in it
reminds you of exactly where you are. The food, by the way,
is excellent. On our first night in the country we ordered a
mixed grill and seafood and I think it actually helped us get
over our jet lag! The waiters were very friendly and helped us
our dishes. Its also just a 5 minutes' walk from the center of
San José, in front of Plaza de la Democracia, so it's in a good
area for an after dinner stoll.

"Gato Negro" Restaurant
pauladjembe: The restaurant is said to be one of the most
glamorous establishments in the area. Its services are shared
with users of the nearby Casitas Eclipse Hotel. They say it is
expensive, but that it has an excellent quality. I went, and my
experience was good, in low season it offers great discounts,
there are hardly any people and it has very friendly service.
Yes it is considered one of the places of "atmosphere" in the
area, I can not comment on this opinion, because I have not
lived its heyday. I can point out that it is outdoors, it has a
pool ...... and jungle views, totally stunning, it is a pleasure to
enjoy a good meal in a wonderful setting, in full nature!

Jose is an experience - so much so that you'll probably need
a guide to navigate its labyrinthine of corridors. It's there
where you'll find La Sorbetera de Lolo Mora, a traditional
sorbet stand whose famous recipe has remained unchanged
for over a century. The sorbet has a unique vanilla and
cinnamon flavor and is unusual for not containing any water.

Los Trapiches
Oscar Retana: This is a tourist resort that is located in
Santa Gertrudis, in Greece Canton, on a road that connects
the canton with Poás. It is a place to try typical Costa Rican
food, with pools, a large ballroom with Costa Rican details
like the oxcart. The main attraction is the old mill building
which squeezed sugar cane and by heating it in steel pans it
became molasses which was used to make the "tapa de
dulce". This is actually Raw sugar and was used to make
fresh water or to sweeten coffee among other things. In
addition this honey, when plunged into boiling water, makes a
type of caramel which is added to other things like vanilla
essence or nuts and after kneading it becomes a
marshmallow or a "sobao". The honey is also poured into
molds and harden and you get the sweet cap, which is widely
distributed for typical sweet water.

heart of Manuel Antonio town center. It is a very lively
restaurant and bar which serves all differing kinds of food and
drink. It is a place to enjoy views of the beach, the Pacific
Ocean and the place to stop after a tour of the park. Its prices
are the same as other places in the area and the service is
pleasant, as it is in all of Costa Rica. My recommendation
would be not to go to this area in high season, as it is one of
the most inhabited places on the planet during that time.

colleague said, there was not a lot to say, apart from that the
cocktails in the area of the bar are tasty. The area of the bar

call it international cuisine. There is a happy hour for beer

and artificial lighting, the quality and variety of food, and the
the great service from all the members of staff, including the

restaurant place to all my friends. The breakfasts are
particularly worth mentioning. They are served with a
delicious fruit smoothie. They themselves make the pastry,
and it is served with good coffee, either regular or "special"
(there are also specialty coffee, 7 types), you can sit on the
couch in the corner, just chatting, or checking your emails.
There are salads, sandwiches, arepas (a typical Venezuelan
dish), and empanadas (Argentine and Venezuelan), and
surely the chef will surprise you with a special creation of the

Elvira Aldaz: When you travel to Costa Rica, you quickly
get the idea that the "casados" (a mixed dish of fish and meat
with beans, rice and salad) is going to be a constant in your
diet, and you're not wrong. It's difficult to find cheap, good
places, especially outside the capital. El Pollo Sabroso is the
perfect place for lunch or dinner on the days that you're
passing through the capital. It's on a side street to the left of
Central Avenue, at the height of a large square which has a
pavilion in the center, past the National Theatre coming from
the Plaza de la Democracia. The directions seem vague but
in San Jose, it's difficult to see the street names, and people
usually give directions based on landmarks. You can
recognise this restaurant because of the slowly revolving
spitroast chickens in the window. It's full of locals, and
casados are around 2000 colones (about 3 euros). We
recommend ordering the chicken, which is the specialty of the
house, and is great. At the weekend they play blaring music

and have a karaoke machine. It is certainly an experience.

Coline: This restaurant, on Paseo Colon, specialises in
"Peruvian and international" cuisine. We ate here morning,
noon, and night during our stay, as we were so excited to
have found this restaurant! Here you'll find lots of excellent
quality meat, as well as fish and shellfish. If you can't decide
which you'd prefer, they have surf and turf options. The pisco
sour cocktails are also delicious. A really good evening can
be had here!

Ignacio Izquierdo: For many, it's surprising to learn that
Costa Rica has such amazing coffee, especially that grown in
volcanic soils and favorable climate of the Valle Central.
Strawberries and sugar cane are also grown in the Valle
Central, but the game changer has coffee. It's been one of the
pillars of Costa Rica's economic growth and Costa Rica has
been steadily stealing market share from Jamaica after
planting vast coffee plantations. So, if you're at all interested
in Costa Rican coffee, you need to stop by this Hacienda to
learn about the full process. The Hacienda is huge so you
only visit a small section where they explain the entire
process of harvesting, cleaning, and roasting. Of course, you
can sample all kinds of brews along the way. The Peaberry
was my favorite, so don't miss it! Also, if the fog isn't too
heavy you'll have some seriously gorgeous views of the
mountains and the valley.

Adventure To Anywhere: Nari Pizza and Pasta is located
right in the thick of the main area of Tamarindo, and was a
perfect afternoon snack stop for the group of girls I was
traveling with. We ordered a Ham and Cheese Pizza to
share, and it was delicious. The restaurant has a
sophisticated indoor seating area along with a charming
outdoor patio. Nari Pizza and Pasta specializes in - you
guessed it - a variety of pizzas and pastas, and the staff are
friendly and spoke both English and Spanish. On the patio
you'll be able to see the wood-fire pizza oven where the
pizzas are cooked.

Adventure To Anywhere: The Restaurant at Hotel Playa
Negra not only has the most ideal location (right on the
beach) but it also has an extensive menu with a wide variety
of options that range from Mexican to Costa Rican to Western
Burgers and Pasta. I only stopped here for a quick breakfast
bite one morning on my way down to the beach, but the
service was fast and friendly, the food was decent and
reasonably priced, and the view couldn't be better! I got to
watch surfers and horseback riders down on the beach while
I enjoyed my perfectly cooked Huevos Rancheros.

Cafe Playa Negra
Adventure To Anywhere: My photos will never be able to
do this amazing restaurant justice. Cafe Playa Negra
provided the most phenomenal meal I had during my entire
stay in Costa Rica - a seafood feast that included Grilled Mahi
Mahi, Shrimp and Calamari, Vegetables and Rice, and the
most delicious sauce. The menu is full of amazing selections
- most of which are influenced by Peruvian cuisine - although
there are a few "American" menu items as well. The ceviche
and the Lemon Meringue Pie (not pictured unfortunately as
we gobbled them up before I remembered to snap a photo)
were unbelievable. I ate here a total of 3 times while I was in
Playa Negra - don't miss it. Open daily for Breakfast, Lunch
and Dinner.

Adventure To Anywhere: Walter's Restaurant is located
near the far end of the main street in busy Tamarindo, and we
only stopped in for a quick drink in the middle of the
afternoon, although the food menu did also look excellent.
The service was quick, friendly and attentive, the ambiance
was lovely, the location was prime and - most importantly of
all - the beer was cold! This would be a great spot to enjoy
dinner and take in the sunset, sip cocktails and watch the
surfers, or order a round of appetizers. I would definitely go
back to Walter's Restaurant if I was ever back in Tamarindo
again.

Thermomania Acuatico
Oscar Retana: This hotel offers rooms and cabins and is
located in Guayabo de Bagaces on the skirts of the
Miravalles Volcanic Massif. This volcano is an ongoing
activity that is manifested in their skirts as mini mud
volcanoes, hot springs, sulfur gas emissions and hot mud.
This mud is accepted for medicinal properties and used in
beauty therapy. The place is nice, with hot and cold springs, a
sauna made of volcano thermal emissions. It is greatly visited
for the water so they have expanded their services allowing
tourist groups to visit during the day. The place is covered in
replicas of indigenous ornaments from the chorotega area.
Tourist facilities include bathrooms, toilets, restaurant, locker
and tourist sites where you can see part of the volcano
activity.

Cabina Cahuita hotel
bagamundo: At cahuita we arrived at the village's main
street. I noticed that the cabins come from the entrance of
Cahuita National Park following the street straight right to end
up in the sea on the right. The cabins are there, in the perfect
site. There are 30 cabins and the price in August was $ 40
per room with four beds each. You can ask the manager
about taking a boat tour to Punta Cahuita to see the corals.
The tour costs 45 dollars per person and leaves you in this
Cahuita National Park and you can walk back through the
park.
