Key Facts for Course: SFJ Close Protection Level 3

• Required contact hours: 196

• Assessment Method: Practical tasks, compilation of a portfolio of evidence, 2 written and 3

multiple-choice examinations.

• Qualification Overview:

The Level 3 Certificate in Close Protection is a qualification aimed at providing learners with the
necessary knowledge and understanding to work as a close protection operative within the private
security industry.

It should be noted that the completion of this qualification permits learners to apply for a SIA license
to work as a close protection operative within the UK, if they meet other general requirements set
by SIA, and have the right to work in the UK. This application is the learner not BSA as the licence is
individual – BSA can assist with the paperwork required.

Successful completion of this course provides a certified SIA recognised qualification

• Medical Certification Requirement

It is an SIA requirement that centres must confirm that each learner has a valid first aid qualification
OR can evidence sufficient training or experience to the Level of:

o First Person on Scene (FPOS) Intermediate Award – 30 hours (Pearson / IHCD) or: o
Level 3 Award in First Aid Response (HABC) or equivalent, or: o Level 3 Award in the First
Person on scene Intermediate(RFQ)(AoFAQ) or:
o Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RFQ) (Qualsafe Awards).

Learners must present a valid first aid certificate or evidence of equivalent training and experience
to their training provider before they can start training. If you wish to use a different certificate you
must bring proof that this is accepted by the SIA as equivalent – the training provider should be able
to give this to you.

Note: The term “FPOS” is a registered Tradename of Pearson.

KEY FACTS FOR COURSE: FREC level 3 First Responder Emergency Care (RQF)

The FREC Level 3 Award in the First Responder Emergency Care (RQF) qualification has been
designed to provide the knowledge and skills to stabilise a patient for up to forty minutes until an
ambulance or other pre-hospital care provider arrives.

The knowledge and skills taught as part of the course are designed for the first person on scene to
intervene within a scope of practice to utilise lifesaving interventions to preserve life and prevent
deterioration of the patient.

This qualification is the foundation for FREC suite of Pre-Hospital Care qualifications and enables
progression up to a Level 7 Diploma.

The qualification meets grade descriptor C of the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care Pre Hospital
Emergency Medicine framework.

Clinical endorsement of the qualification is by the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care, Royal College of
Surgeons Edinburgh and the Association of First Aiders. On completion of the qualification, learners
will be eligible to apply to the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care for Level 3 Membership.

English Language Competence Requirement

For this qualification BSA uses IQ as the awarding body. SIA and IQ require that all students must
provide evidence of their level of English - speaking, written and reading.

The awarding body, in consultation with Skills for Security, specify the following:

• Communication in English is an integral requirement of the level of competencies. This is made

explicit in competence statements and in relation to the Session which deals with
‘Communication and Conflict Management’.

• Candidates also need to demonstrate their competence in English in an applied context in

relation to other areas of the specifications and competence needs to be considered holistically,
with the aim that the candidate should be able to demonstrate these same competencies
effectively in the workplace. To not be able to do so can have health and safety implications for
the individual, and for others, in the workplace.

• For the above reasons, it is not appropriate for candidates, for whom English is their second
language, to be provided with a scribe or reader to assist them in their assessment.

• BSA will carry out an initial assessment of candidates to identify their particular needs at the
earliest stage. If you wish to check yourself we suggest you go to the following link

Students with or without experience

BSA welcomes applications from students with or without experience or any prior knowledge to the
private security industry.

However, it should be noted that candidates without military/law enforcement experience will find
it incredibly difficult to find work in Hostile Environments.
