COURSE TITLE : EM – ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT


COURSE DESCRIPTION :
This course will entail students to learn the basic function of manager applicable in decision
making which are applicable to the real world problems. Furthermore, students would learn how to
apply the different functions of management (planning, organizing, staffing, communicating, motivating,
leading and controlling).
CONTACT HOURS : LECTURE – 2 UNITS – 2 HOURS PER WEEK
COURSE OUTLINE :
I. Introduction:
 Why management is important in the field of engineering?
 What are the basic principles, concepts and theories in management?
 What are the difference forms of management?
 What are the different types of managers? What are their roles and skills of manager?
II. Decision Making These are the different topics that we are going to discuss: Definition or
meaning decision making, the 7 steps in decision making. Meaning of a good decision,
important of decision-making, Improvement of decision making, different decision skills,
how leaders make good decision making, and characteristics of a good decision. Factors
that may affect the decision-making, type of decision making.
III. PLANNING FUNCTION OF MANAGEMENT – Meaning of Planning function of
management, the nature and characteristics of Planning, Importance of Planning, Different
elements of Planning, different steps in Planning and Different Principles of Planning
