producing electricity. Coal is burned in furnaces
that boil water. The steam from the boiling water
then spins turbines that are attached to
generators. The Philippines's most heavily used
energy source is coal.

From our previous lesson, we have discussed about

sources of heat.

Heat - energy that causes substances to rise in

temperature, fuse, evaporate, expand, or undergo any
of various other related changes, that flows to a body
by contact with or radiation from bodies at higher
temperatures, and that can be produced in a body

Batteries are sources of electricity when both terminals

( positive and negative terminals) are connected.
Explain how a power plant produces electricity

Formulate the concepts:

1. Electricity may come from batteries and an
electric power station
2. Electrical devices or equipment in the homes
may operate using batteries or electricity from
power stations. Some electrical equipment
operates by using both sources.

Electrical Safety Tips

1. Never touch an exposed wire connected to a

wall socket.
2. Do not allow a metal ladder to touch a power
line. A person climbing the ladder will be
electrocuted if it touches the power line.
3. Never touch electric power lines. Even if a line
has been broken by a storm or car accident, it
may still be connected to the main power line.
4. Do not use any electric appliance while standing
on water or a wet surface. Do not touch any
electric appliance when you or your hands are
wet. You can get severe shock.
5. Do not poke anything into electrical outlets.
6. Do not use appliances with broken insulation.
7. Do not repair electrical appliances yourself.
Request an electrician or a trained adult to do it.
8. Avoid octopus' connection to prevent current
overload
9. Do not fly kites near power lines.
10. Always heed electrical warning signs. The best
rule is to avoid contact with any electric current.
