Learning management system (lms)

A LMS is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking,


reporting, automation and delivery of educational courses, training programs, or
learning and development programs. Learning management systems were designed to
identify training and learning gaps, utilizing analytical data and reporting. LMSs are
focused on online content, including courses, both asynchronous based and
synchronous based.
Types of learning management system
Google Classroom is a cloud-based management system that is a part of Google Apps
for Education. Google Classroom enable students to access the platform from
computers, tablets and smartphones. Users can create Google Docs to manage
assignments, Youtube videos and attach files from Google Drive. It helps teachers
create and organize assignments quickly, provide feedback efficiently, and easily
communicate with their classes.
Blackboard is a virtual learning environment and learning management system
developed by Blackboard Inc. it is Web-based server software which features course
management, customizable open architecture, and scalable design that allows
integration with student information systems and authentication protocols.
Edmodo is a free web communication tool. A variety of features which makes it a
perfect tool to be utilized in educational settings as a Learning Management System
include online notes, quizzes, assignments, polls, setting deadlines for homework,
grade book, dividing class into subgroups, online free as well as paid classroom
resources and the opportunity to connect with teachers around the globe. This platform
is equally useful for teachers, students, parents and management of educational
institutions.
Moodle stands for modular object-oriented dynamic learning environment. Founded and
developed by Martin Dougiamas in 2002. Moodle is a user-friendly learning
management system designed to provide educators, administrators and learners with
an open, robust, secure and free platform to create and deliver personalized learning
environment.
