//PATTERN BACKGROUND//
I hunted high and low to find a pattern like this so ended up designing my
own. Crochet is so big this winter but this could easily be reworked in brighter
colours for a cold summer’s eve too.

Yarn A: 1027 Khaki x 4 (4,5,5,6) balls
Yarn B: 1256 Jaffa x 1 ball
Yarn C: 1065 Meadow x 1 ball
Yarn D: 1827 Fuchsia Purple x 1 ball
Yarn E: 1829 Empire x 1 ball
Yarn F: 1123 Claret x 1 ball
Yarn G: 1420 Camel x 1 ball
Yarn H: 1084 Magenta x 1 ball
Yarn I: 1712 Lime x 1 ball
Yarn J: 1029 Copper x 1 ball

You can use any DK yarn that works to the same tension.

Motif measures 16 (17, 18, 19)cm/6¼ (6¾, 7, 7½)in square using 4mm
(5mm, 6mm, 7mm) hook.

Cassie loves vintage clothing and often scours the internet for unusual pieces
of clothing. She finds such satisfaction in making pieces for herself.

//PATTERN STARTS//

MOTIF
Make 9 in each of two colourways, use shade before “/“ for first motif and
after “/“ for second motif.
With 4mm (5mm, 6mm, 7mm) hook and yarn B/H, make an adjustable ring.
Rnd 1: 3ch (counts as tr here and throughout), 1tr in ring, 1ch, (2tr, 1ch) 5
times in ring, join with sl st to top of 3ch. Fasten off.
Rnd 2: Join yarn C/I in any ch-sp, 3ch, (1tr, 1ch, 2tr,) in same ch-sp, (2tr,
1ch, 2tr) in each ch-sp around, join with sl st in first tr. Fasten off.
Rnd 3: Join yarn D/J in any ch-sp, 3ch, (2tr, 1ch) in same ch-sp, (3tr, 1ch) in
each ch-sp around, join with sl st in first tr. Fasten off.
Rnd 4: Join yarn E/K in any ch-sp, 3ch, (1tr, 1ch, 2tr, 1ch) in same ch-sp,
(2tr, 1ch) twice in each ch-sp around, join with sl st in first tr. Fasten off.
Rnd 5: Join yarn F/L in any ch-sp, 3ch, (1tr, 1ch) in same ch-sp, (2tr, 1ch) in
each ch-sp around, join with sl st in first tr. Fasten off.
Rnd 6: Join yarn G/M in any ch-sp, 3ch, (2tr, 1ch) in same ch-sp, (3tr, 1ch) in
each ch-sp around, join with sl st in first tr. Fasten off.
Rnd 7: Join yarn A in any ch-sp with 1dc, 3ch, (1dc, 3ch) in each ch-sp
around, join with sl st in first dc, do not fasten off - 24 x 3ch-sps.
Rnd 8: Sl st to first 3ch-sp, (1ch, 3dc, 1ch) in next 3ch-sp, *(2dc, 1htr, 1ch),
in next 3ch-sp, (1htr, 2tr, 1ch) in next 3ch-sp, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr 1ch) in next 3ch-
sp (corner made), (2tr,1htr, 1ch) in next 3ch-sp, (1htr, 2dc, 1ch) in next 3ch-
sp, (3dc, 1ch) in next 3ch-sp; rep from * around, join with sl st in first dc .
Rnd 9: Sl st in next 2dc, sl st in next 1ch-sp, (3ch, 2tr, 1ch) in same ch-sp,
work (3tr, 1ch) in each 1ch-sp and (3tr, 2ch, 3tr, 1ch) in each corner 2ch-sp
around, sl st in first dc. Fasten off. Rnd 9 can be worked as a continual joining
row, otherwise join the 9 squares in three rows of three motifs, using dc join
through all 4 loops to form a square for main body, mixing the 2 colour ways
in desired pattern.
BOTTOM EDGE HEM (make 2)
Using 3mm (4mm, 5mm, 6mm) hook and yarn A, 13ch.
Row 1: 1dc in second ch from hook and in each ch to end, turn.
Row 2: 1ch, (does not count as st) 1dc blo in each st to end, turn.
Rows 3-96: As row 2.

NECK EDGING
With RS facing, work along top edge of one 3 x 3 joined square, using 3.5mm
(4.5mm, 5.5mm, 6.5mm) hook, rejoin yarn A to top right hand side, evenly
distribute 96dc along top (32dc per square), turn.
Next row: 1ch, dc to end, turn.
Rep last row a further 7 times.
Fasten off.

TO FINISH
Join both large squares at either side working through all 4 loops working
26dc across each shoulder leaving 44dc unworked in the centre for neck
opening.

Pin bottom edge hem to bottom of squares with RS’s facing. Stretch hem so it
reaches all the way along, join to bottom using a row of 96 sl st.

With RS’s facing join up each side starting at bottom rib hem leaving 17 (19,
21, 23)cm unworked for armhole at either side.

SLEEVES
Row 1: Using 4mm (5mm, 6mm, 7mm) hook join Yarn A under arm, 3ch
(counts as 1tr), work a further 62tr evenly around armhole, sl st in top of 3ch
to join - 63tr.
Rnd 2: 3ch, tr around.
Rnds 3-26: As row 2.
Rnd 27: Using 1.75mm (2.75mm, 3.5mm, 4.5mm) hook, sl st around sleeve
to form a tighter cuff.
Fasten off.

Darn in ends.
