BRIEF INTRODUCTION

MUSIC: MUSICAL PLAY (PERFORMANCE TASK)

The musical play is a popular and generally lighter form of musical drama than the
opera. The themes are usually more contemporary, and the musical melodies more
manageable by the average singer. The acting is less intense and dramatic. The
choreography and dance sequences provide visual breaks from the ongoing plots.
Musical plays have been associated with the Broadway plays of New York City and West
End Productions in London, including My Fair Lady, South Pacific, Camelot, West Side
Story, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Wicked,
Mama Mia, Cats, and Miss Saigon.

MUSIC ACTIVITY

A. Concert –Live Performance of Philippine musicals

Procedure
1. Present a 3-5 minutes musical based on the 20th or 21st-century Philippine musical.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

P.E.: CONTEMPORARY DANCE (PERFORMANCE TASK)

Contemporary Dance
A performing art that involves rhythmic body movement within a given space,
choreographed based on musical beat it is performed either in front of an audience or
by everyone on a dance floor. The name “contemporary dance” describes a range of
techniques and styles used in classes, workshops, and dance choreography; It was
developed in the early 20th century as a recreation against the rigid techniques of ballet,
It is characterized by its versatility and can be danced to almost any style of music, or
united with other dance forms to create new styles of movement, it seeks to work with
the natural alignment of the body, and is therefore safe and accessible for beginners. At
the same time, the ease of movement promoted by contemporary dance techniques
allows experienced dancers to push new boundaries of body movement, It is a dance
that is made in, influenced by, or presented in our current world context. This is a flexible
way of identifying the field that allows for an increasing range of contemporary practices
in dance and allows dance artists the freedom to self-identify their work rather than
being categorized inappropriately. Contemporary dance makes a statement about the
world around us and can offer an artistic perspective on the human condition in bold
and courageous, or subtle and ambiguous ways. It is a non-story dance, which means it
is open to interpretation and fresh, inspiring, and risk-taking wherein the primary creative
tools are the Body, Time, and Space.
