2.1 INTRODUCTION
Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) dominate the
world business stage. It is estimated that more than 95% of enterprises
across the world are MSMEs, accounting for approximately 60% of
private sector employment.1 In India, MSMEs are widely dispersed
across the sectors of the economy, producing diverse range of products
and services to meet the demands of local as well as global markets.
The contribution of MSMEs in GDP is 6%, 33% in manufacturing sector
and 45% in exports2 which indicates the valuable contribution of
MSMEs in India to the manufacturing and service sector.
The MSME sector assumes a pivotal role in driving the growth
engine in India. This sector continues to demonstrate remarkable
resilience in the face of trailing global and domestic economic
circumstances. The sector has sustained an annual growth rate of over
10% for the past few years. With its agility and dynamism, the sector

2.3 CONCLUSION
MSME Sector in India is a dynamic sector. It is providing
employment to unemployed youth of the country. It is gaining much
more importance as there is scarcity of jobs in such a populated
country like India. The nation is also achieving the goals of a growing
economy due to the expansion of the MSME sector. In this backdrop,
Ministry of MSME has been consistently enunciating policies resulting
in enabling schemes and programmes for enhancing competitiveness of
enterprises. New initiatives of the ministry and market driven economy
give rise to increasing product portfolios. There has been consistent
growth in enterprise creation, employment generation and market
value of fixed assets in this vibrant sector.
