East Bayugan Central Elementary School aims to enhance and help those learners improve their
performance level In English writing. Especially during the pandemic, learners who did not think
about how to write specifically English subjects felt terrible at those times. A common problem
and issue even before the pandemic arose was the performance of grade 4 learners in English
writing. In the new normal, the teachers and parents are now acting as teachers to them.
The proposed innovation involves the integration of Emerging pictographs, which are
contemporary and relevant visual symbols, Into the English writing curriculum for grade 4
learners. These emerging pictographs are intended to serve as a visual aid/ representation to
stimulate creativity and improve performance in writing English for grade 4 learners. Especially
the comprehension and overall writing experience. This innovative approach aims to enhance
and help improve the performance in writing English of grade 4 learners.

INTERVENTION
The intervention around incorporating emerging pictographs at crucial stages of the writing
process. This includes pre-writing activities, brainstorming sessions, and the drafting phase.
Teachers will guide students in selecting pictographs that align with the themes or concepts of
their writing. Students will also be encouraged to create pictographs representing specific ideas
or emotions, fostering a personalized and expressive approach to English writing.

Strategy

The researchers' strategy will explain the concept of emerging pictographs by

applying an engaging introduction to how these visual symbols/pictures can

improve their performance in English writing. Next will be the selection and

creation. They will choose only one picture they want to write, and after that,

the learners will have a descriptive English writing essay about the picture they

choose based on their interpretation. Then, they can share and discuss the
pictographs they have chosen. The researcher will gather, compute, and

interpret the data on the effect of Emerging pictographs if it improves the

performance level in English writing of the grade 4 learners.

IV. Action Research Methods

a. Participants and/or other Sources of Data and Information

The study participants were Grade 4 learners Section Diamond and the English subject teacher,
Ma’am Annalee M. Buque.
Of Bayugan East Central Elementary School. The school was located at Purok 8 Barangay
Taglatawan, Bayugan City Agusan del Sur, Philippines. Conduct a pre-intervention assessment
to gauge the current writing skills of grade 4 learners. This may include analyzing pre-test and
post-test writing samples, standardized test scores, and teacher interviews. Conduct and
implement the grade 4 Diamond the emerging pictographs, then monitor and observe the
reaction, engagement levels, and challenges encountered during the implementation of
emerging pictographs.

b. Data Gathering Methods

Writing Samples: The data will be gathered by collecting English

writing essays of the grade 4 diamond learners, focusing on the

incorporation of emerging pictographs. Administer surveys or

questionnaires to students and teachers to gather perceptions,

attitudes, and feedback regarding using emerging pictographs in

English writing before and after emerging pictographs are applied. I

will also conduct a classroom observation to observe learners’

interactions, collaboration during pictograph selection, and

engagement levels during English writing using pictographs.


c. Data Analysis Plan

After collecting all data, it will be analyzed to identify the patterns and

changes in students' English writing skills using statistical tools and

procedures to interpret the data. The frequency and percentage t-test

will be a statistical tool of the study that will be used to identify

whether the emerging pictograph is efficacious in improving the

performance in English writing of grade 4 learners' section Diamond.

Then, adjustments and reflection on the findings are needed to

determine whether any adjustments to the interpretation are

required.
