Emergency and First Aid Procedures

In case of contact : Immediately flush eyes or skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.
while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Assure adequate of flushing of the eyes by
separating eyelids with fingers. Wash clothing before reuse.
If inhaled : Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration.
If breathing is difficult, given oxygen
If ingested : Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately.
Section VII – Precautions for Safe Handling and Use
Steps to be taken in Case Material is Released or Spilled
Evacuate area. Shut off all sources of ignition. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus, rubber boots
and heavy rubber gloves. Place in covered containers using non-sparking tools and transport outdoors.
Clean up spill. Flush with plenty of water, and remove contaminated articles.
Do not return spilled chemical into the original drum or vessel.
Do not throw this chemical into the trash bin.
Waste Disposal Method
Make a 3% solution of the chemical in water.
Gradually add a 50% excess of aqueous sodium bisulfite with stirring at room temperature.
An increase in temperature indicates that a reaction is taking place.
Destroy excess bisulfite, neutralize and flush the solution down the drain.
Precautions to Be Taken in Handling and Storing
Oxidizer. Use only in a chemical fume hood
Keep away from combustible materials, heat sparks, open flame and sunlight
Use only a dry, clean cup or vessel made of ceramic, plastic or glass when handling.
Store in cool place in original container. Keep tightly closed.
Do not drop or roll the drums.
Do not drop onto, or slide across, sharp objects.
Do not store in side.
Avoid creasing or impacting of side walls.
Do not permit truck engine exhaust gas to contact this chemical.
Other Precautions
Thermal decomposition of calcium hypochlorite sets in around 175oC with the evolution of oxygen and chlorine.
Propagating rapidly through the whole bulk.
Decomposition of calcium hypochlorite is accelerated by storing in above 40oC.
