ASYNCHRONOUS TASK – GRADE 9 – BIOLOGY – DATE :11.02.

2021
I. Draw the labelled diagrams of the following
1. Synovial joint
2. Nucleus of a eukaryotic cell
3. Plastid form a plant cell
II. Answer the following questions
1. What would happen when these nutrients are not provided in right amounts?
a. Vitamin C : Scurvy
b. Vitamin B1 : Beriberi
c. Iron : Anaemia
d. Calcium : Rickets
2. Is there any role of proteins in our body other than in growth ? List any three areas of
functions of proteins in our body

• Repair of worn out cells

• Hemoglobin in red blood cells which is responsible for the transportation of
oxygen.
• Enzymes are responsible for the breakdown of food in the digestive system.

3. If a person is not eating fats at all but consuming lot of proteins and carbohydrates in
his diet. Are there any chances of him gaining weight and become obese? Give your
reasons
Excess proteins and carbohydrates gets converted into fat and stored in the adipose
tissues leading to obesity.

4. Describe the role of following in the digestion of food in our body.

a. Bile :
• It contains sodium bicarbonate which removes the acidic content of the
chyme coming from stomach, making it alkaline so that the pancreatic and
intestinal enzymes can act on it.
• Decreases surface tension and Breaks fats into tiny droplets (
emulsification) and increase its surface area so that the enzymes can act
on it.
b. Gastric juice :
• It contains water, salts, pepsin, HCl.
• HCl kills germs with could have entered along with the food
• The hydrochloric acid activates the the pepsinogen, converting it into
pepsin which acts on the proteins, breaking them down into peptides
• The hydrochloric acid activates the the prorennin . converting it into renin
which acts on the casein, breaking them down into paracasein.

c. Pancreatic juice :
• Amylopsin : Acts on leftover starch converting it into maltose
• Streapsin : Acts on emulsified fat converting it into fatty acids and glycerol.
• Trypsin : Enterokinase activates Trypsinogen converting it into trypsin.
Trypsin then acts on polypeptides and peptides , converting them into
smaller peptides.

a. A. humerus, B. radius, C. ulna, D.carpal, E.phalanges

b. A.cervical, B. thoracic, c. Sacrum, d. Lumbar, e.coccyx

following areas

1. Elbow : hinge
2. Shoulder : pivot
3. Wrist : gliding
4. Phalanges : Hinge
5.Vertebral column : Cartilaginous

d.A.femur, B.patella, C.Tibai, d. Fibula, e. tarsals, f. metatersals, g. phalanges
