TIRES

TIRES
• There are many type of tires & in CM tires vary greatly from type to type

• Most CM operates in sandy, muddy, or rocky condition, so cannot travel at

high speed Internal pressure and load are thus determined by speed

• In rocky ground there is greater likehood of suffering tire cuts and puncture

• In sandy and muddy condition tire with internal reduce internal pressure for

greater floatation are used to prevent tire from sinking

TIRES FOR OFF ROAD VEHICLE

➢A tire of larger floatation with reduce internal pressure and smaller

grounding pressure.

➢Functions are:

• Support of load

• Transmit driving forcer and braking fore to ground surface

• Absorb vibration
STRUCTURE

➢Mainly consist of 4 main parts:

1) Tread

2) Breaker

3) Carcass

4) bead
1. TREAD
• This is part on outside of tire, and is made of thick strong rubber

• This protects inner structure and from external damage

• The tread part in contact with road surface is called crown, on which various
grooves are provided depending on work condition

• They are designed to prevent from skidding/slipping and also radiate heat,
while ensuring driving force to road surface(traction)

• Make better tire appearance

• Improves steering capability and stability

2. BREAKER

• It is layer b/w tread and carcass

• Normally consist of 2-4 cord clothes

• This not only alleviates shocks from outside of tire, but prevent

damage on tread from directly reaching carcass

3. CARCASS
• It is very important part, consisting its Skeleton

• It is layer of clothe made of cord cloths superposed slantwise and

alternatively of vertical thread

• This fends off the load and shocks on the tire and ensure air- pressure
from within tire

• The cord cloth is generally of nylon, and b/w cloths special rubber in
inserted too prevent tire from heating
SIDE WALL

• This is on the side of tire adjacent to tread, where thickness of rubber is

thin

• Rubber here is soft to enduce the bend that takes place continuously

during travelling
4. BEAD WIRE
• The bead section is a place where tire is fitted in rim

• It is made up of strong steel wires covered with rubber

• 3-4 rows of bead cores are arranges with higher ply rating

• It ensures that tires does not come out from the rim by road surface

shocks or by driving force from rim

• Therefore tire is fixed securely in the rim

CHARACTERISTICS OF TUBELESS TIRE

✓No trouble with tube

✓Safe diving

✓Excellent cooling effect

✓Easy to repair punctures

✓Economical
TREAD PATTERN
• Pattern made on tread section, that is a formation of notches

• Different types of grooves and cuts are engraved, depending on maker

application of tire, is called tread pattern/design

i. Traction type

ii. Rock type

iii. Block type

iv. Rib type

v. Smooth pattern

vi. Snow pattern

TRACTION TYPE

• Excels in both floatation and traction ability

• Lug of tread section enter into ground for

good traction

• Soil separated easily from the tire, so suited

to work on soft terrain

• For ease of soil removal, grooves are formed

in shape as shown
ROCK TYPE
• Excels in resistance in cuts and abrasion

• The rubber layer of tread is thick and suited for

work on hard surface roads and rocky terrain

• b/c of large tread pattern width and narrow

groove width ( lug 75%, groove 25%), resistance

to cuts and abrasion is excellent.

• Heat radiation is not good.
