Some people think that good health is a basic human need, so the medical services

should not be run by profit-making companies.

Do you think the disadvantages of private health care outweigh the advantages?
(29/3)

In today’s developed world, maintaining good health plays a vital role in society,
therefore it is claimed that healthcare services should not be operated by profit-oriented
organizations. I espouse the notion that the benefits of privately-run healthcare are
overshadowed by its drawbacks.

On the one hand, there is no denying that private health services can provide certain
noteworthy upsides. One of the major benefits is that these institutions help to ease the
intense burden put on state-owned hospitals in terms of financial resources . No doubt,
due to the faster services private medical infrastructures (1) facilities provide compared to
public ones , patients can acquire the fastest treatment without having to wait in the long
line, which means / signifies that fewer people would flock to public hospitals,
indubitably mitigating the mounting pressure on public healthcare’s human resources and
facilities. As a result, this leads (3) would lead to the decreasing demand for funding for
construction and renovation of public healthcare facilities from the government, therefore
the government may allocate a higher proportion of the state’s budget for other key (4)
crucial areas such as education and transportation infrastructure.

Albeit the aforementioned plus points, I do believe that private health care does more
harm than good. One of the discernable downsides is the exorbitantly expensive cost of
treatment. Indeed, since privately-owned clinics are not subsidized by the state’s capital,
they typically have to raise fees for treatments in order to maintain their operations,
proportionally resulting in exorbitant services. Consequently, this may leave the
economically marginalized inaccessible to these highly qualified premium services. A
second disadvantage is a breach in professional ethics. In fact, private medical institutes
usually concentrate on generating substantial profit, they may recruit poorly-qualified
medical practitioners who are willing to receive low remuneration in order to reduce the
overheads , which in turn exerts (3) would exert severely adverse impacts on patients’
treatments.

In conclusion, although profit-making organizations might share the financial burden

with government-owned hospitals, it seems advisable that this advantage is eclipsed by
the unaffordable costs and the violation of professional ethics.
