“Ngayon Kaya”

1. What was the theme of this film? What were the film makers trying to tell us? Were
they successful?

Ngayon Kaya is a romance-drama film centered around the story of two reunited friends,
alternating between their present condition as distant memories and their past life as
musically-motivated college students. This is a film that is more about a story between
lovers or friends, but rather a closer look into the socio-economic status amongst the
youth that divide them from their responsibilities and their dreams. Such theme is what
Jen and Prime understand so well that they easily describe it repeatedly in their films.

2. A movie about two individuals falling in love, yet they could never express it to each
other, is a tragedy. Unspoken words leave a void in both their lives forever, no matter
how hard they try to overcome them. A simple, light-hearted movie that will leave
you sad and make you feel the emotions the movie is trying to indicate through it.
Through the simple lives of two ordinary people in the Philippines, it makes us
appreciate the beauty in little things.
