AlvinBlox last year released a video called “I Made The Most Pay To

Win Roblox Game.”

Fast forward to today, this video now got over 5,000,000 views,
thanks to the thumbnail change AlvinBlox has made later on. But
why did a thumbnail cause it to blow up so much?

We’re gonna break down the entire video’s thumbnail and learn why
it blew up:

Focus is one of the most primary things we considered while

making this thumbnail.
Not only we had to make the viewer notice and focus on our
thumbnail, but also focus the viewer’s eyes to 3 key elements:

The Gamepass, the Player and the prohibited sign that shows the
Player can’t walk.

So, How did we do it?

Using Color, and Size.

Let’s break down each of them, shall we?

Color is and always will be one of the most important things, for
every YouTube thumbnail ever made.

Usually, every thumbnail has the same background.

Green grass, blue sky.

But, we went with green grass, and brown dirt.

Why?

To stand out from the rest of the thumbnails. Imagine yourself a

homepage full of thumbnails with the usual green grass, blue sky
background.
Then, suddenly, you see a thumbnail that changes the colors.

Which one are you most likely to notice first?

Obviously, the one that stands out from the rest.

But, we couldn’t have done it without the Size of the elements.

Size affects the readability of the thumbnail.

When you make a thumbnail you need to also make it

understandable at a small size.

Because, YouTube always resizes your thumbnail depending on

where it is.

And, it resizes it where it’s most important: The Homepage.

So, our elements need to be readable even at a small resolution,

especially when we’re competing against tens of other thumbnails.

But, let’s see how we tackled the problem for the Gamepass:
Simplicity is when we simplify elements of the thumbnail, but
still make them look believable as if the element is actually part of a
game/action.
But, why am I talking about simplicity?

You may have not noticed at first, but in the thumbnail we made for
AlvinBlox, we actually simplified the gamepass.

Why?

A normal gamepass: Our gamepass:

We simplified the gamepass not only because it would’ve been more

readable in a small size,

But, also to help reinforce the idea of the video.

The Idea is probably one of the most important aspects of a
Youtube thumbnail.
It’s what can either ruin your thumbnail, or perfect your thumbnail.

You can follow everything I just explained here, but, your video will
still not take off with a bad thumbnail idea.

So, how do we come up with a winning idea? By genuinely thinking if

your idea is worth watching or not.

It might seem simple, but many don’t think about it at all.

Research if there are any similar videos with a similar idea.

Have people watched it? Have they liked it? Would they want even
another video on the topic?

And, if the answer is yes, then it’s probably a good idea. You never
know until you try.

So, that’s how we made the thumbnail of one of the most

viral Roblox videos.
